Topic Dog Boards / General / Dangerous Dogs act
- By memwilliams [gb] Date 02.06.08 17:04 UTC
While getting quotes for a new policy for my Shar-Pei, I discovered to my confusion that the supermarket Sainsburys would not insure him because he  is classed as a dangerous breed under the dangerous dogs act. I am aware that shar-peis are known as 'fighting' dogs but was not aware they were classed as a dangerous breed, when looking at the act, I could not see any information anywhere, except for the 4 breeds are are banned.
I may be being totally thick, but could someone please shed light on this for me?
Thanks!

Think the underwriters consider that as a fighting dog they will not insure the breed, however you could point out to them that their leaflet is incorrect and the the Pei are not on the DDA list and are not even mentioned, for their information of course before you take your custom elsewhere.

Strange, got a quote from them for a BT, also not on the list (very rightly so), but they too were originally bred for fighting, so you assume this would be the case too?!
