Topic Other Boards / Foo / My cat is missing!
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 31.05.08 21:05 UTC
My 8 month old cat has gone missing. We've been gradually introducin her to the garden in preperation for when she goes out but today when we took her out in to the garden she ran in to next door neighbours garden and thats the last we've seen of her. She went at 11.30am today and shes not had her tea (she gets fed at night time).

Im devastated shes gone. Tomorrow were going to put posters up and through letter boxes. Has anyone else's cat absconded like this? Im not even sure she knows her way home!

I bet she'll be sat on your doorstep tomorrow morning , if not before!!

She's probably on an adventure and completely forgotten to come home - or is curled up somewhere safe fast asleep.

We once had a cat in the cattery where i work that went missing for 18 months and then turned up in the kitchen one morning as if nothing had happened!

No sign yet. Just off to print some posters. Havent had much sleep. We left the conservatory doors open and slept in the living room so we could see her if she came (got the shock of our lives when my mum turned up at 11.30pm to look for her!) but still no sign. :(

I'd check all the sheds and garages of your neighbours ;-) One of our neighbours cat regularly gets shut inside a shed. You'd think she'd learn, wouldn't you :-)

She could very well be lying sleeping under a hedge, wondering where home is, and if that is the case then she should come home once she hears you calling her.

Shes back! Im so relieved.

Luckily we have really nice neighbours. They text me this morning to say they had seen the cat in their garden last night but when they went down it was too dark to see. We were stood on our side of the fence this morning shouting her and then we heard her meow. We both jumped straight over the fence and looked in the direction we heard her. We eventually found her hiding under some pallets.

I might be able to sleep tonight! Im so happy shes home. Shes my substitute child and I was devastated thinking Id never see her again!

So happy to hear that she's back. Such a worry - my cat went missing for four days once, wherever he was I know he didn't want to be, he's such a 'home' cat and scared of strangers. I'm convinced he was close by and could hear me out walking and calling him as from the day he came home (three years ago now) he's been my shadow and follows me everywhere.
Anyway, you'll still worry when she goes out I'm sure. I know when we first got our cat (he was a two year old rescue so we didn't know his history) I put a collar and bell on him. It was comforting to hear it as he always seemed nearby even if I couldn't immediately see him. Also to make sure she is let out on an empty tummy, that way she'll want to come home for her grub !.

Glad the cat is back.  I learned a valuable lesson recently when our cat disappeared for a week, always check with the neighbours first!  They'd been allowing him into their house where he was eating their cats' food.  No wonder he looked well on his return.

Does the butter on paws trick work with cats being introduced outside for the fist time? or is just an old woves tale. Luckily we've never had a problem with getting our cats back in. Putting them out when they are hungry and simply rattling their biscuits when we want them to come in usually works a treat :-)

Must admit I've never tried it.  Have moved numerous times, we try & keep the cats in for at least a fortnight.  Well that's always proved fun!  The house we're currently doesn't have a distinct front & back garden so the dogs can go all around the house basically.  Poor cats didn't like that idea much but now they've learnt that if it's a lab wandering about then they're fine, anything more hairy looking then freeze like a statue & pray they don't spot you ;-)

My cat has had lots of cuddles and has slept for most of the day!

Donna, how long has your cat been missing? Im so sorry to hear that. Going through what we've been through is not something I want to experience again. We decided a while back she would be a house cat because there is a major road on our front and we just didnt want to risk it.

Hope Ed's return is soon! x
