Could anyone please help me in sorting out my 7 mth male Gsd!
I trained my last GSD myself and he was brilliant. But the dog I have now has a mind of it's own! I know he is still young..but he is so hyper! He pulls like mad on his lead and his head his constantly darting from side to side looking for things to put in his mouth...stones being his favourite! When he is scolded for anything he just stands his ground and barks. I want to have a loving relationship with him, but he is making life so hard for us....the kids don't want to play with him anymore because he is so rough! Any advice would be gratefuuly received. I live in the Merseyside area..any trainers or classes known of?

HI there Guest :)

You specify that you want a loving relationship with your young Gsd, and I can highly recommend a friend of mine, Helen, in your area.

She is brilliant with dogs and knows GSd's very well. She does a "Think Dog" course and holds small and informal classes - she is a gem!!!

You can telephone her on : 0151 722 3767, or email her on FastTrackPups@aol.com

I can also recommend Erica Peachey, if she happens to be closer to you in terms of mileage, she can be reached on 0151 625 2568

Can I recommend also, if you go to other classes, go along first without your dog, and make sure you are happy with the methods used :)

Good luck :)

Hi Rufus,

My dog was imported from Ireland. I got him at 7 weeks.

Hi there,

You say he came from Ireland, did you see his parents at all?
- By trappy [gb] Date 24.07.02 13:31 UTC
His parents and grandparents are both lovely,well-natured dogs.

get a halti, a very good invention it stops pulling making your dog a pleasure to walk

At 7 months he is just entering puberty, the worst age, like the terrible teens!!
If you are not gonna use him for breeding at all, you might want to consider having him neutered, this could calm him down a lot. Also, how about adding a couple of Skullcap and Valerian tablets to his food daily? They are herbal, and safe to use, they are supposed to make quite a difference to hyper dogs. If his parents etc are good natured chances are he will be too - when he reaches maturity that is, which could be as late as three years!!

Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how how comes along.
