My girl has just had her first puppy, she has no milk, no liquid nothing, when does this come in and will pup be ok without any?
Our last litter (different mum) she had milk about a week before whelping.

Not all bitches have milk prior to whelping - they will have colostreum (sp) for a couple of days - a clear liquid which is very important for the pups to have.  The milk will usually come down in the first 24-48 hrs.  The suckling of the puppies should encourage the milk production - then it all comes in at once!!

Thanks we have milk.  We also have 3 boys and 1 girl. :)  Think she may have finished but no placenta from last pup yet, it started to come out and then stopped and went back in, she has been over an hour now and seems very calm and content, but no more contractions, how long is ok?

I would keep an eye on her - are you certain that there are no more puppies still to be born?  If you have any worries you should phone your vet - they may be able to reassure you without a visit.  Or she may need an injection to get the last afterbirth out.

placenta could pass the next day, my girl had the last placenta left behind and it just popped out 24hrs later, just keep an eye on her as long as she is bright then alls well - good luck with the babies :)

Thanks we now have 5 pups 4 boys and 1 girl, but she has only passed 1 placenta that we have seen and she hasn't been left.  There is lots of dark brown/green fluid though.
She seems fine in herself.

She may have eaten them without you realising, they are so quick at times. I would suggest that you get your vet out in the morning to check her over and if necessary give her an oxytocin injection to expell anything left.  Pity it is a bank holiday.

We took her over to the vets this morning as they have a surgery on BH.  They checked her over and gave her an injection, so hopefully she will be fine now.  She is doing really well and is a great mum. :)  Thanks to everyone for there advice.
