Hiya
I was feeding Kirkland Signature to my dogs but I bought a bag of AG Prestige to try and get a bit of weight on him following his op and he now looks better. I don't know if this was a coincidence or whether the change of food helped.
The ingredients below are for the Kirkland and it costs £15 for 18kg:
Chicken (18.5%), chicken meal (18.5%), whole grain brown rice, cracked pearl barley, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and Vit E), egg, beet pulp, potatoes, fish meal, flaxseed, brewers dried yeast, millet, carrots, peas, kelp, apples, dried skimmed milk, cranberry powder, potassium chloride, rosemary extract, parsley flake, dried chicory root, glucosamine, Vit E, ferrous chelate of amino acid hydrate, zinc chelate of amino acid hydrate, ferrous sulphate, zinc sulphate, copper sulphate, potassium iodide, thiamine, chondroitin, ascorbic acid, Vit A, biotin, manganese sulphate, Vit B6, riboflavin, Vit D, folic acid.
Protein 26%
fat 16%
fibre 4%
moisture 10%
calcium 1%
phosphorus 0.8%
Vit A 15000 iu/kg
Vit D 800 iu/kg
Vit E 150 iu/kg
Omega 6 2.5%
Omega 3 0.4%
and what I would like opinions on is whether I should go back to this when he is further recouperated or stick with the AG and if so would you stay with the Prestige or swap to the chicken & rice for example?
Price is not too big an issue as it takes two dogs approx 6 weeks to eat a 15-18kg bag. His poos have been much firmer since introducing the AG (it is mixed 50/50 at the mo) but this could have been due to his morphine based pain killers although these stopped 4 days ago.
Sorry I don't have the AG ingredients for comparison.

They are both much of a muchness.I'd go for the AG due to the higher protein/fat content. It's a hard choice as they are so similar.
If he's happy with AG, why change? I believe Prestige is excellent for putting on weight. Change to standard Chicken and Rice if you get concerned about him being overweight. Arden Grange have a decent advice section. I contacted them and got an email reply the next day, with some samples as follow up

Thanks for that. I thought they were pretty similar but didn't know if I was reading the ingredients wrong :)
Is there much difference between the AG chicken & rice and the Prestige, if any of you out there have fed them and can compare/comment?
The Kirkland is easy to get from Costco, and half the price, but as I said that is no real concern of mine. The AG I ordered from Berriewoods came quickly as well. Decisions, decisons......
I know it sounds stupid but can you mix two completes 50/50????
If the Kirkland is very close to AG but at half the price then go with what he had before if you and him were both happy.
AG is a good food and do deliver for you directly.
Can you only get kirkland from costco? never heard of it before.
Yes I think you can only get it from Costco as it is their own brand food.
Does anyone know if it is ok to mix two completes 50/50 on a long term basis?

If you like both why not feed one for breakfast and one for dinner. :)
That's an idea but so far he hasn't picked one kibble over the other from the same bowl.
Something to look into tho.
I might stick 50/50 and see how he goes cos he's put weight back on and his poos are firmer than just on the Kirkland - lovely thought but something to consider ;)
