Hi I have a litter 8 weeks old. Recently I wormed them and one of them is sick now. The rest are fine. But she is weak, dehydrated and want eat. At first I thought it maybe lowblood sugar. So I gave her some sugar water. About 20cc's. As the day went on she did not get anybetter so I gave her some more. I also force fed some purated chicken. Still with no sucess. I am afraid I am going to loose her. I have her on a warming blanking where she looks sick. And lets out a whimper every now and then. My vet is out of town who does emergency visits. I dont have the money to take her to a emergency vet hospital. Does anyone have any sugestions. Please help
This sometimes happens after worming with whelps. Your puppy needs to be taken to the vet NOW, I am sure if you don't have enough money for the vets you can come to an agreement to pay off what you owe them or do you have a credit card? Your puppy needs medical help before she gets any worse and dies. Please get her to the vets
My suggestion is take the puppy to the vet now. If you have a usual vet, there must be someone covering the practice. if not, then you need another that does, even if it is only to have the puppy pts to get it out of its misery which is kinder than waiting until your vet is back and may help and wait for payment. yes thats harsh, but the kindest way if you don't have the money for what could well be a considerable vet bill. Are these puppies sold yet? Funds could come from your puppy money, so your vet may wait till then.
If she is not up and about now after what must be at least 24hrs of taking ill get her to the vets now - she needs urgent vet care. If you really can't go to the vet because of money phone the PDSA or the RSPCA who will surely help you. The puppy's health must come first before other concerns of how you are going to pay the bill.

But if you don't have the money the vet can turn you away except for the basic care, such as pts.
calmstorm, vets have a legal and ethical obligation to treat any animal that is suffering in any way, regardless if that is jut PTS or not. My friends is a vet receptionist and they get this often, or people who have the treatment then say afterwards that they cannot pay.
To the OP, how is the pup doing? Please take her to the vets now if you haven't already.
I personally know of vets that have refused to treat an animal unless the owner can pay, and have even refused to return the dog until payment has been made. Absolutly dreadful state of affairs, but it has happened.
I think it's really terrible how vets refuse payment over a couple of weeks when not everyone has hundreds of pounds lying around. I have been lucky recently, i have had the money and when i needed a couple of days to raise the full amount owed (get paid lol) i was allowed to pay 3/5ths and take my dog home. With my wage being extras money i have a fair amount every 4th week (until i hit the shops) and can pay large chunks but not everyone is in my position. It's a dreadful shame for all of those animals that have to suffer/die because Vets no longer trust their customers, or the customer isn't usually trustowrthy as the case may be.

I was recently chatting to our vets practice manager about this sort of thing. My youngster had a referral for a specialist orthopaedic surgeon, the op was £900 and they weren't going to bill the insurers direct. After my vets gave me an excellent reference they allowed Gem to have the op and billed the insurance company, which is normally against their policy. The practice manager (at my vets) said it was perfectly understandable that they had this policy as all vets have a great deal of people who don't pay for treatment! Apparently there are some pet owners who travel around from vet to vet, running up bills then moving onto the next vet. Of course this means that those of us who do pay then have to pay extra to cover these bills. I've been with the same vets since they opened 20 years ago and we've built up mutual trust (and friendship) in that time.
I can quite understand why vets insist on payment at time of treatment, they're not a charity - go to the PDSA if you need charity. Can you imagine going into Asda for a loaf of bread and saying you can't pay for it just now but will do so at the end of the month - the answer would be NO. Now if you had been going to the same corner shop for years for your bread and asked the same question they would I'm sure say that's fine. Get to know your vet :-)
Getting to know your vet is easier said than done. My vets practice has wonderful trained staff but the reception staff and one or two of the nurses are very frosty and make you feel unwelcome when you enter. No smiles, no hello, definately no greeting for the dogs which they came to expect from their previous vets and this made their occasional visits enjoyable! They're terrible on the phone, they ask why you need the appointment and never allow you to say what is wrong, they cut you off mid sentance with a see you at 3 then "click" as they hang up. I know a number of people that have switched to vets out of town so s not to have to endure these awful women when their animals are sick. Fortunately when you get into the consulting room the vets all make a point of speaking to the dogs first giving them a fuss and asking the dog whats wrong lol.
I understand why they do this but surely there could be some kind of written agreement, legally binding, that people could sign if they really needed help. PDSA hospitals are few and far between nd if people cannot afford a big vets bill how could they faford to travel to the pdsa hospital?
Its just shame it has to be like this with the few bad eggs spoiling things for those of us that are honest and trustworthy.

You must remember worming is a kind of poision, that is why you must be careful. Like all drugs we all react different. Vets now!! dont let her die. If you are selling her you will get your money back. Glocose in warm milk. Poor little mite.
