Topic Dog Boards / General / Ideas for venue?
- By Star [gb] Date 02.05.08 06:10 UTC
On June 29th our Club have planned a Meet the Breed Day. This is following on from a successful one last year. Weather was great then but we hope to raise the profile a bit and have other activities planned. Unfortunately the venue we have are not thrilled if there are a high number of dogs actually in the hall. If weather is horrendous this could be a problem.
Looking for possible venue alternatives that have a hall to accommodate Fun dog show, grooming demo, breed stand etc etc but with outdoor facility if weather is good. Preferably central Uk and not mega expensive (Not asking much are we :-) Has anyone any suggestions, contact numbers etc.
Thanks

The Dobermann Club's land at Digswell in Hertfordshire?

Not central UK, but meets other criteria nicely if you were stuck - Bradfield Village Hall near Reading. Very cheap and huge amounts of outside space if weather is kind to you, no problem with dogs in the hall if it's not. As long as you put prominent signs up, it's easy enough to find, but you do need to do this.

Good luck with it - venues are a nightmare these days, and your date is right in the busiest period.

Oh, Tomlinson's Dog Centre in Leicester is nice too, although would expect it to be pricey. Don't think they have a website, but details below:

Not sure whether Tomlinsons are still having shows there? One of our fun days is at St Leonards Hall, Watlington, Oxon - room inside and out and close to motorway

Cottesmore Village Hall. We had our breed show and a seminar  last year and will have the show there next year. Just off A1, easy to get to, clean, V cheap and there is a bar area too. Good outside area, rooms downstairs, large room upstairs with a gallery looking on to the hall downstairs. Very dog friendly.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will pass them all on to our co-ordinator after the BH weekend.
If you have any more ideas please keep them coming.

Asfordby Amateurs Football Club and Sports Hall near Melton Mowbray have a lot of dog shows. Facilities are good, plenty of parking and not expensive.
