I took Shady in the car to the field for a run this morning, but it was quite hot to be chasing a frisbee, so I decided to bite the bullett and attempt to walk her home instead of going in the car and then bring Milo back over to the field for his walk and collect the car then.
Its a big thing to walk her the 11/2miles home as its all quite busy roads and narrow paths and Shady has always been very fear aggresive with wheels as well as dogs, cats and children, and weighing in at just under 40kg she is strong with it.
I have been doing a lot of work over the past couple of years by slowly letting her see traffic but far enough away so she was in her comfort zone. She is worse when traffic comes toward her.
However off we went, cars she never gave a 2nd glance, vans she tensed a little but carried on walking, lorries and the dustcarts that were about I just turned her to face away and got her to sit and made a fuss of her as they went by and although tense she didn't lunge.
Luckily we met no off lead dogs, the only hairy moment we had was when she spotted a cat in the hedge before me, but we eventually got past that.
I was so proud of her  at one time a car even in the distance she would start lunging at, I never thought this day would come  .
I know we still couldn't do it on wet roads as the noise the traffic makes on wet roads really freaks her out for some reason, but one day we will get there.
I'm going to try and do this as often as I can now on days the roads are dry.
Wooo my girly was so good and brave and worth every bit of hard work and effort. I love her so much  and can't stop grinning

Congrats, it is so nice when we work so hard to have our dogs work through some of their issues or fears!  Take pure enjoyment in the work you have done, and the outcome in your dog!!

Congratualtions that's a big step forward.

Well done - I remember reading about Shady a while back - you've done a fantastic job  :)

Thankyou for your lovely comments everyone. I'm still resembling a cheshire cat and Shady thinks I'm the one who's lost the plot now as I keep squealing and hugging her  .

I have to admit she has not been an easy dog, and I have really had to gear my life round her and plan her walks carefully.
I have always dreamed that one day I would be able to just shove a lead on her and set off for a nice walk. Now I think the future may just have that dream come true for us. A way to go yet, but I am getting more hopeful and even if we don't she is worth everything to me.
By the way thats not Shady in my avatar thats my JRT milo

Well done to you and Shady.
Glad you told us about your Avatar, I was going to make the comment that a 40kg JRT would take some controlling.Hehe

I think a 40KG JRT would have exploded and died or be in the guiness book of records and unable to stand let alone walk LOL.
Milo is a mere 6.5kg
