Topic Dog Boards / General / My Bichon Frise Puppy got attacked
- By ashleyrenee [us] Date 25.04.08 19:45 UTC
My puppy got attacked on my friends property by her dog who is a chow, pitbull mix. My puppy was on a lesh and her dog was in a kennel but lifted the bottom of it up to get my dog. I always take my puppy down there and the dog has never tried to get out to get him. I just don't know what to do she is my best friend. Does anyone know if she will be responsible for the vet bills?

Surely if she is your best friend she will be offering to cover the bills anyways? and if not, if she really is your best friend, just ask her.

I know I could be that direct with my best mate.

She did say she would pay but when i went to pick my puppy up yesterday at the vet they wanted me to go and get the money off of her before i could take my puppy home. Well I know she couldn't pay right then and there so I wrote a check hoping she will pay me back. Today I called her and she was very short with me.

If I were her having a pit bull mix I would be bending over backwards to sort out the vet bills. Considering PB and PB mixes are actually banned she is lucky if that is all you are asking her for.

I'm sorry to hear that, I know my best mate wouldn't see me stitched up, perhaps she just feels awkward about the situation and will calm down over the next few days.

If she is any type of friend she should not be needing you to chase or feel guilty, but when it comes to money often people shirk their responsibilty.  I guess you will find out what type of friend she is soon, as to be honest, not sure where you would stand legally as you took your dog onto her property knowing she had a dog of this type, she may well have had someone tell her responsibility was not wholly hers or not at all.  Dog on dog is different to people and dogs and even then on her own property it can go either way.

I would try to get in before she has a change of mind, with a payment plan quickly, once you draw something up and get her to pay just one payment legally you have an acceptance of responsibility.
