looking on a free ad site and had to giggle at the cheek of some people asking ridiculus prices for crosses one inparticular astounded me rare and unique staffy mastiff am bulldog crosses selling at get this £500 more than what most pedigrees with papers and all the health checks go for i dont know wich is stupider the advertiser or the people who pay these prices my girls babies will be pedigrees but not kc and i would not dream off trying to fleece people out of that much cash for them and thats what it is fleecing people
- By dilemma199 [gb] Date 24.04.08 15:45 UTC
the ones that really make me giggle are wanted ads
eg wanted pug good with everything, female under 6 months, fawn free or very cheap! you see loads like this always expensive breeds and Im always amazed at peoples cheek.
- By MandyC [gb] Date 24.04.08 15:51 UTC
i see a great ad the other day for  ddb puppies, they stated that these particular puppies were very expensive at £1500 because they were rare wait for it - because they had blue eyes, they were only 3 weeks old! Every puppy born has blue eyes!!!!!
More for the idiots that actually fall for this crap!
- By minni [gb] Date 24.04.08 20:48 UTC
iv seen some of the free ads too i agree caint belive how much people try to sell their cross breeds for..one thing i did notice was if you look again in a few weeks you will see the same ads for the same dogs with the price lowerd i caint help feeling sorry for the poor dogs that end up being sold cheap!!..another thing iv noticed is alot! of people selling dogs they have had for awhile "through no fault of their own" no its the fault of the person who bought the poor thing in the first place..i do understand it caint be helped in some cases but it still gets to me but even more when its one (or in some cases!) two of my breed..i could never! let one of my girls go ever!!..i think some people jump into getting a dog without thinking (like in the case of my rescue cav) i just dont understand why you would buy a dog keep it for 6 months/1 year/2 years/ just a few of the ages of dogs for sale iv seen "through no fault of its own" arggg! makes me mad!!!
- By Miss_Meeka [gb] Date 24.04.08 21:23 UTC
I'm shocked as well at the prices people charge for crosses
BYB seem to like adding fancy names to make them more appealing! For example the ''Huskamute'' sells for about £600
For that you could get a registered good quailty Sibe or maybe Mal on it's own!!
My personal favourite has to be the so called Northern Inuit 'breed' (I use the word breed loosely)
Of course some people are drawn to the name and the flashy website, they never stop to check what the dog is actually made up of
A fool and his money eh

reply to minni
Totally 100% agree with you.  It breaks my heart to see them shoved from pillar to post, they must get so mixed up.  I saw a bitch advertised the other day.  It said "had one litter, but not with me"!!!!!  Poor little mite.  Through no fault of its own gets right up my nose.
- By minni [gb] Date 24.04.08 23:04 UTC
think the worst one iv seen is a "pugalier" 3 guesses to which two were mixed that time!..:(
- By calmstorm Date 25.04.08 01:07 UTC
"through no fault of its own" arggg! .....don't forget the 'my childs allergic to it' or 'moving abroad' or 'dosent get on with the other dog/cat/rabbit'

Of course, as the Police found with the illegal pit bulls in Liverpool, people who breed these dogs have a 'code' in advertising, and some of these staffy/ABD/ etc crosses may be other than advertised...if you catch my drift. :(

I saw a heart breaking advert the other day for a boxer a adolelesent male in a paper 'children out grown dog' hope the poor dog finds a fantastic forever home :(
How irresponsible are some people..........:(
- By Asa [gb] Date 25.04.08 08:03 UTC
Has any one else noticed the stud dog adds that are getting more common...advertising a pedigree male for stud on any breed of bitch!
- By Asa [gb] Date 25.04.08 08:05 UTC
What about this one....seen on a free ad site the other day!

****** ******, ********* bitch. 2.5 years old. She won 'Best open bitch' and '3rd best yearling' at *****Show. This dog is stunning, in prime show quality, and really is 'top rung of the ladder'. She had her first litter of pups Christmas day, eight stunning pups of show quality. This dog is a prime breeding animal, it doesn't get any better than this
Find this very sad....and strange! selling a dog as 'prime breeding material' just after her first litter
Also owner obviously is stupid,a conman or a genius as to produce a whole litter of show quality pups is no mean feat..or should I say nigh on impossible!
Also...does 3rd best yearling and then best open bitch only sound odd to
- By Dill [gb] Date 25.04.08 08:16 UTC
OH bought the yellow free ads again last week :( very depressing, loads of bitches in there had 2 seasons not speyed - one actually said ideal for breeding   no KC papers tho   :(

Lost count of the "wanted cheap or free, pedigree small breed bitch/pug/chi/etc good home waiting" - as if a bad home would advertise itself !!

Also one ad for - "wanted small breed puppy cheap or free pedigree not essential as it's for my little niece's birthday"

I've told OH to remove the pages before bringing it home :( :(
- By calmstorm Date 25.04.08 08:50 UTC
sorry about the repeats! Kept getting an 'error' message telling me to try again....and I did....and whoops umteen of the same :)
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 25.04.08 10:04 UTC
My son has just started to look for a dog for his family. He keeps phoning me to ask about all these new breeds. I just keep telling him to walk away from them. The right pup will turn up at the right time. He has been on my list for a non standard coloured pup for several years and has decided that he isn't going to wait any longer (I haven't produced one ;-) ) The prices are ridiculous. Pedigreed dogs can be bought for a lot less than some of these mongrels. My son's eyes have helped me open mine a lot more :-D
- By MandyC [gb] Date 25.04.08 10:15 UTC
i saw an ad the other day for a ddb bitch it read: stunning bitch 9 months old, in season now!!!!!!!!!! it made my blood boil, i emailed the advertiser telling them exactly what i thought of them and that encouraging someone to buy this poor girl and breed her at 9 months is absolutely disgusting - i was SO angry.

i have since looked at the ad again and there is now no mention that she is in season - these people should be banned from owning any animal ever! :((
- By Michelle_Best [gb] Date 25.04.08 11:30 UTC
Same here im a Pug owner and it amazes me how many of those ads i see wanting bitches for £0-£300 as if anyone would sell their bitches to these people or give them away i always suggest rehoming a sheltered pug or looking for a similar breed who needs a home.
- By minni [gb] Date 25.04.08 13:17 UTC
yes i dont get that when people are placing ads for a "must be free or cheap" puppy..why on earth dont they just go to a rescue center and rehome one of the many! many! dogs or puppys there..weird!
- By belgian bonkers Date 25.04.08 13:23 UTC
Cos rescue centres CHARGE MONEY to adopt, that's why!
If they can't afford to pay for a dog, then they can't afford to keep one!
- By Nova Date 25.04.08 13:34 UTC
Wonder what a 2 and half year bitch was doing in Yearling and 3rd place wow, that is the height of success add that to the fact that the winners of all the classes must have dropped dead and she went on to win the Best of breed, what a lucky bitch and had a litter of show quality pups all at the same time. Must try for one of those.

Makes you sick. Poor pathetic animals and poor naive purchasers.
- By minni [gb] Date 25.04.08 14:58 UTC
yes i agree belgain bonkers..if they caint afford to buy a puppy how on eath are they going to afford to keep it? as my OH keeps reminding;)me i spend a fortune on my girls..prob because the poor pup never!! see's the inside of a vets!.:( :(
- By Astarte Date 25.04.08 15:12 UTC

> "through no fault of their own" no its the fault of the person who bought the poor thing in the first place..i do understand it caint be helped in some cases but it still gets to me but even more when its one (or in some cases!) two of my breed..i could never! let one of my girls go ever!!..

i quite agree. sometimes it's for a very good reason and thats fair enough but i couldn't- god my mother was in tears this morning because they are giving one of theirs to me as my dads health has become so bad. they will see him every day or so and she is still devestated! i don't get how people can just give up dogs
- By minni [gb] Date 25.04.08 15:21 UTC
ahh bless astarte..really sorry to hear that i hope "both" your parents are ok..atleast they will see their beloved pet when they want..my heart goes out to you all!! {{{HUGS}}}
- By Michelle_Best [gb] Date 25.04.08 15:22 UTC
Yeah thats an acceptable circumstance to give a dog up as my parents rescued their setter from an elderly couple when the husband died and the wifes health deteriorated but she was incredibly upset that she had to give him up

Most of the time i find it turns out to be a case of wanting to breed from them then realizing 4 one reason or another the cant therefore the dog is useless too them
- By Astarte Date 25.04.08 15:27 UTC
yeah their doing ok, it's just a real blow for them as he's the last bully boy they'll have. mum said today since she's only got daughters the boy dogs have been like her sons.

choosing to believe its fate though as this as all happened just as my bf and i are settling down together and were thinking of getting a dog. it means that we get a dog we both adore, tio's going to be fine and mum and dad don't need to worry.
- By Astarte Date 25.04.08 15:28 UTC

> Most of the time i find it turns out to be a case of wanting to breed from them then realizing 4 one reason or another the cant therefore the dog is useless too them

ohh that makes me so angry. you should have to pass an owners test or something before getting a dog. i seriously believe strict licencing should be in place.
- By ashleig08 [gb] Date 25.04.08 18:29 UTC
another one i have seen is a sbt bitch for sale but in the pic she has a litter of pups i cant help feeling they have had there money and are now selling her i think this is awfull and wrong i have seen a few like this
- By Astarte Date 26.04.08 11:00 UTC
horrible people
- By helenmd [gb] Date 27.04.08 07:45 UTC
Talking of crosses I had someone phone my grooming salon yesterday asking to book their "Cockerdoodle" in for clipping. The thing was it was a cocker crossed with a STANDARD poodle(cocker/min poodle crosses seem quite common now). She said it was the size of a standard poodle-the mind boggles at how much grooming that would need.We were booked up for a few weeks so she decided to go elsewhere so I won't get to see it.The thing that annoys me is that I've seen Cockerpoos/cockerdoodles or whatever you call them advertised as having low maintenance coats but the ones we have clipped have been matted solid and had to be shaved off(the same goes with labradoodles,we've done 3 and all have had to be shaved off).
- By DEARLADY [gb] Date 27.04.08 07:50 UTC
in our local paper - SHORKY's for sale - Shitzu x Yorkshire Terrier, "non malting" £375 - also advertising Shitzu dog for stud, KC reg'd !!!!
- By minni [gb] Date 27.04.08 08:43 UTC
i saw a add on the adtrader web site it was for labradoodles too but ther is a sign on it that says kc accredited breeder?? i didnt think you could reg crosses?
- By DEARLADY [gb] Date 27.04.08 08:46 UTC
maybe the breeder has other breeds for which they are accredited??
- By newf3 [gb] Date 27.04.08 08:50 UTC
it amazses me that there are people that are stuped enough to pay this money for a crossbreed.
its still a mogel whatever the cross!!!!!!!!!
- By malwhit [ru] Date 27.04.08 09:17 UTC
I'm amazed at the numbers of older dogs (sometimes 5 years +) for sale at marginally less than the price of a puppy.....after a few weeks unsold, they start coming down in price sometimes dramatically.

Now people are finding the cost of living increasing and the with the "credit crunch" I wonder how many of these dogs and puppies for sale will end up unsold and/or in rescue.

My pet is hate is people who advertise and can't spell the name of their breed - it does not fill me with confidence about their ability as a breeder!
- By minni [gb] Date 27.04.08 10:45 UTC
im just suprized that an accretited breeder would cross breed :(
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.04.08 10:47 UTC
Not if you read some of the posts here on the ABS.
- By dexter [gb] Date 27.04.08 13:59 UTC
Yes agree Malwhit, i often see adverts for blonde labradors or golden Labradors. Also weimaraner adverts for pups spelt wrong.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 27.04.08 14:04 UTC
Or 'Dalmations'.
- By theemx [gb] Date 28.04.08 17:00 UTC
Non malting....

Hee.. thats good, the malty ones are very sticky!

In all seriousness... does drive me a bit bonkers all these designer crosses.. if you want to play make up a silly name for an odd looking dog, theres plenty to be had in rescues. If you want a posh pedigree theres plenty real breeds around.
- By Llama 88 [gb] Date 03.06.08 20:33 UTC
Slightly off topic of so called designer dogs but I'm so fed up with people saying mongrels make the best pets or are safer with kids. A dog can display the negative or positive traits that go into it. Being a mix does not magically water anything down!
- By Carolineckc Date 04.06.08 19:24 UTC
labradoodles in my paper, kc registerd?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 04.06.08 19:26 UTC
The parents might well be KC registered, but not the puppies ...
- By cocopop [gb] Date 05.06.08 08:23 UTC
We have MINIATURE labradoodle pups in our local this week!!
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 05.06.08 10:00 UTC
labradoodles in my paper, kc registerd?

I think that i'd be phoning the paper to say that this can't be so and that they are fooling the GP.
- By Rupertbear [gb] Date 05.06.08 10:13 UTC
I too have just seen an ad for minature Labradoodles, £750!!!  Honestly
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 05.06.08 10:23 UTC

>The parents might well be KC registered, but not the puppies ...

Unless it's on the active register, in which case it may be misleading but isn't necessarily untrue.

M.
- By dexter [gb] Date 05.06.08 10:25 UTC
Yeah me too :( and colli-oodle pups in one paper this week £500  :(
- By cocopop [gb] Date 05.06.08 15:33 UTC
Rupertbear, your miniature labradoodles must have a better 'pedigree' than the ones I saw, they were only £350 compared to your £750!
- By tatty-ead [gb] Date 05.06.08 21:27 UTC
ads in this area are 300-450 same paper has 'At Stud ad for Std Poodle - all breeds welcome & also Papillon - all small breeds welcome
