Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Experiences with Trans Cervical AI ??

Hello everyone .. first post from me but I have been reading all your contributions for some time and hope you may be able to help me.

Prior to the rule changes on AI the  KC gave me permission to do an AI mating with an overseas stud .  Sadly my girl reabsorbed the pups on the two attempts we made using surgical insemination .. she had previously had a litter of 8 pups and subsequently had a litter of 10, with natural matings. All in all an expensive and disappointing exercise.

I have no imminent plans for further AI attempts but I do still have some semen on store therefore I am trying to find out who has had successful AI litters with frozen semen using with Trans Cervical inseminations . My understanding is that success rates are lower with T.C. than with surgical, and the procedure is technically more difficult, therefore before I attempt any further AI matings I would very much like to hear from breeders who have tried Trans Cervical AI and had successful litters and / or failures.

The vet I used for surgical AI is not continuing with the reproduction practice, partly due to rule changes re TC insemination, so I will need to find an alternative vet should I contemplate any further AI attempts in the near future. If breeders would prefer not to post such information on an open forum please feel free to PM me .. all information will be held in confidence.

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi Karen,

We have tried both..Trans Cervical this year...no puppies with either :-(

In the end I have imported a new stud dog from Sweden...I fly out on Friday to pick him up :-)

We still have semen in storage, but until the success rate is better, we will not spend the time and money on the semen.

I hope you have a postive reply from someone.

In the USA they seem to have a lot of success with stored semen and AI litters from frozen, chilled and fresh, yet in my breed we have only had success twice in 30 years and other attempts have been expensive waste of time.

America and Australia certainly seem to have better success rates .. I know of plenty of folks with GSP's who have had AI litters in both countries but no one in the breed so has been successful in the UK .  If I could ship my girls and semen to the USA I would, however unless I win the lottery I guess I am gonna have to find a UK specialist or just keep the "good" on store until things improve.

I have had some useful feedback so far. Info on failed AI matings is as useful to me as info on successful ones.  I understand that this info  may be rather sensitive therefore please feel free to PM me

Thanks again to everyone who has responded so far
