Just heard today that a Yorkie has been killed after being attacked by a " staffie type dog!

I think it is the dog i posted about the other week. Description of owner exact , Apparently owner run off!

Going to ring the dog warden tomorrow to see if i can get further info on the owner and dog as i am 99 % shaw its the same owner whose dog nearly attacked mine. Thank god i had mine on the lead out of the way

Sad thing is the kids saw the incident as well, not nice for any one

Poor owner , i think i no who it is as there is only one yorkie owner who walks there dog over there.

Just wanted to share my thoughts so angry about this owner , they were spoken to by myself and had spoken to the dog warden about it! Gives the other types of breeds a bad name.

Poor people, who owned the Yorkie.  Such a horrible thing to happen. 
Hopefully something can be done about this staffie type dog, and the owners.  Why cant people control their dogs?  ARG

It's disgusting that people who obviously know thier dogs will do this allow them off lead/un muzzled :( they really shouldn't have dogs. The children that saw that incident will never forget that :(

I had a look around as he lives near me but he is prob in hiding

How tragic. Both for the owner and the children watching.
Hope they find the b*&^ard. How can you run off after that-sounds like it's not the first time he's run away from something he shouldnt!

It means a Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossed with something so makes it a SBT type.
Poor Staffords all over the place are cross bred with so many different breeds and this is very detrimental to a breed that is perfect when simply left alone and a purebreed :(

I think perhaps the point being (and I dont' want to put words in Jayne's mouth) -
When e.g. newspapers/media describe a dog as a staffordshire bull terrier 'type' - it could be argued that it either is or isn't a staffordshire bull terrier?
It is either a pure bred Stafford or it's a cross.. simple as that.

Many, many newspapers I've read describe dogs as Staffordshire TYPE terrier, Staffordshire TYPE bull terrier, Bull Terrier TYPE, the description vary from tabloid to tabloid I guess!

iM NOT sure if it is a pure breed! It def isn't like the staffs that walk the field as they are smaller and more com[oact. The one in question is bigger and finer in bone and weight it carrys

When the first incident happened to me, i assume a staffie but after calming down so realsed it was not a pure breed.

The council and police are using the term " staffie type"

No news yet on catching him. I am keeping a close eye out as i no who he is but cant remember his name!!!!

Its not actually as you put it the KILLER Dog's fault!
It is the owner who is at fault for this happening. For not keeping his dog on a lead in the first place.
There are many times when there is DOG on DOG aggression.
All terrier types whether- yorkie's , staffie or cairn's or a mixture have the attitude for being feisty little dogs.
Please do not blame the dog as any animal not properly controlled can get into trouble.

Not really as it is a label used which does the SBT terrier breed no favours.  Either a dog is a SBT or it is a crossbreed.

So really stocky mongrel dog attacks Yorkie.  When someone says Staffie Type, collie type, Terrier type etc they really have no idea if these breeds are even involved in the mix they see, though it can be a good guess at times.

When used negatively it does slur the breed being compared to though, as the negative traits may well not come from the apparent recognisable part of the ancestry.

How many people who see the hard boys out with their so say Staffies are actually surprised that a Staff is only supposed to be about 16 inches tall at most 17kgs.  What they are seeing in the streets are not typical of what the breed should be.

I have sadly seen advertised Norwegian Elkhounds crossed with GSD, with Huskies, and with a Maremma sheepdog.  In my mind none of these would be a positive step, and I would hate it if when these got into rescue and had behaviour/temperament issues (not typical to the breed) they were called Elkhound types.

I agree about the person, but if you knew the Staffordshire Bull Terrier at all you would never call them a 'killer' dog, That Stafford does not deserve the labelling with a label like you just gave, I woul;d bet my life that owner had taught it to be 'tough' and attack other dogs.
Dogs are what we make them, and when people abuse that trust they have in us, this is what happens :(

I don't believe media  hype, my 2 other dogs walk with other staffies and play really well! Also my pup

I would of been angry with any owner or waht ever breed when the incident happened  with me!

I had a Lurcher once grab hold of one of my Pomeranian's and shake it a few times.  This was the dogs natural instinct at something small and furry going passed it.  This was at an obedience class where other dogs had to sit stay and the rest of us call our dogs through.  I was only young at the time so never thought of the implications of a dog that didn't look too disimiliar to a rabbit or hare running past a Lurcher.  Niether did the trainers think about it.  I never once blamed the dog nor the owner.

Luckily for me my dog had a happier ending and just shrugged it off and actually continued the rest of the class.
