I have two Chihuahuas aged 13 and 10. I was told one was overweight by my vet so I changed both their food and he lost weight. He's a larger Chihuahua the other one is normal size. He weighed 6.2 kg now he's down to 5.6kg so he does still need to lose a bit. I give them JWB Senior Light and they each have 50g per day which is the lowest amount it says to give them on the bag. The one who is larger is always wanting food but he's always been like that. The other one seems satisfied and doesn't run and gobble it all down so he doesn't seem hungry. Is 50g each a day split into two meals enough? I do give them a healthy biscuit each in between their meals as well.

At one time I had my Elkhound bitch on just 100g a day of food when she needed to loose weight and that is a breed that should weigh around 20kg, so 50g for a toy dog seems plenty, about what I fed a friends overweight Yorkie when she came to stay for two weeks and she didn't loose much weight in that time.

As the other dog isn't hungry on that amount I would say your not starving the bigger one

Thanks for that. The other one is the right weight and has always just eaten what he needs and left anything when he's full but Benny isn't like that. I was worried because it seems like a small amount and I don't want to be starving him.

Obviously once he has reached a correct weight you may need to increase his food a very little, or perhaps not.  One of my girls eats the same as the others even though she is bigger.

For the hungry one pieces of Appple or carrot make nice treats and help him stop feeling so deprived.
