hi my staff is 8mths and suffering from demodectic mainge we are using aludex for the last 3 weeks and it seems to be working but the pads on her feet seem to be peeling and very dry and we have to put a coller on her to stop her biting them. i think it must be a reaction to the wash and the the vet does also. is this common and is there anything we can do to help her. if anyone can help thankyou in advance

my staff had demodex about the same age as your dog i was so worried about her, this was diagnosed after having a skin scrape, since then she has been on ADVOCATE drops which we put on the back of her neck every month, it cleared up after about 2 months and touching wood never had a repeat episode, the vet said it is usually passed down from her mom and dad and when the immune system is low it then flares up, have you contacted the poeple  you got your dog from as they should not breed from the carrier,as you should not either. i didnt have tess to breed from plus she has been spayed, i wish you lots of luck its so awfull to see your dog poorly.

My Bordeaux had Demodex, perscribed the 12 weeks of Aludex and he was on antibiotcis for like 12 weeks! Then I hear about other Vets doing the Advocate treatment...which I prefer. Aludex baths are horrible! I think that if they know you have insurance they go for the higher cost treatment. Even if its chemicals...But I cant say that for sure!
My dog never had the symptoms your staffie does. But mine did get really lethargic after them.

I can vouch for the efficacy of the Advocate for Demodex as a Friend has a bitch with Autoimmune and it keeps her demodex under control.  She uses it every 28 days without fail, if shed delays by more than a few days she breaks out again, and with the steroids she is on (for other immune problems) her skin is easily damaged.

No comment on the treatment but you could try coating the pads with Vaseline or any other thick oily cream like Zinc and Castor oil before the bath. Try to keep it on the pads and not between the toes as it could be a site where the insect is living.

thankyou i will try vaseline on her pads and she has been sprayed i think that after her op her imune system was down hopefully that was the reason of her outbreak

That is very likley as all dogs have the insect but they only seem to cause a problem if the dogs imune system is lowered and becomes unable to keep the problem under control.

Might also be worth trying some NEEM shampoo even though my dogs don't have mites it is supposed to help protect against mites, fleas and tics and it smells really nice: http://www.neemgenie.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HA02
