Hi,
I have a flat coated retriever puppy at 5 months at what age should I begin to agility train him as I know that if I start before a certian age it will be bad for his joints. Does anyone know what the age is for this breed ?
Thanks,
Jenny

No dog of whatever breed or non breed should start jumping training before they are 12 months old, however before any agility training all dogs need very good basis off lead Obedience.

I knew it was around then but thought better be safe than sorry !
Thanks,

I often see that posted on here but my (old) agility club and probably most competitive clubs actually like them to start as young as possible. Not doing any actual jumping of course but getting used to the equipment and used to having fun round the equipment. My youngster started at 4 months running through the wings of jumps, learning left and right, going through the tunnel etc. Also as most clubs have huge waiting lists for beginners I'd definitely get your name down for one now :-)

You'll find a list of clubs here with contact info - have fun :-)

I did write

>jumping training before they are 12 months old

& I know our local club won't accept a dog unless it is already basic obedience trained
