Can someone just clarify to me about the dna test for Poodles. Is it something that is particularly linked to just the blacks or to all colours in the breed. Just a bit confused.
Thanks

I know nothing about Poodles I am afraid, but My Mals all have current eye certificates for hereditary cataracts. There is also a DNA data collection happening for this breed.I found all details on the kennel club/bva website.
Hi I have just had 2 of my mins Optigen tested 1 black and 1 red thankfully both came back Clear/Normal.The test should be carrried out on mins and toys to determine whether they are Clear,Carrier or Affected for the prcd form of PRA.

Hi Star
Doesnt really matter what colour your poodle is, if you are going to breed from your poodle at all you should get the DNA test done. Its very simple as your vet is given written instructions on exactly what is needed and even better the price has come down a lot!! Within 2-3wks you will get an email back telling you whether your poodle is A. - clear B. - a carrier C. - affected.

Jackie Kitchener from the miniature poodle club will be able to help you find a suitable pet, though I'm sure you may end up showing a poodle sooner or later :) :) they are addictive! I know of 2 litters up here that are due in the next couple of weeks but I'm sure Jackie will be able to find you something a little bit nearer to home
