Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Whats the best puppy food to buy.

Our 16 week old lab puppy was weaned onto Pedigree Puppy Food by the breeder.
Now everything has calmed and settled down ( injections, micro chipping settling into a new home) i want to wean her onto a different food.
What is the best to buy, and where from?
Do you use the local PAH or the internet?
She seems to prefer the dry food, and i add hot water to it.
Any suggestions would be greatfully received.

There are a myriad of differing diets out there - many can be bought at PAH and also many over the net.  However, can you say why you want to change away from the current food?  Is the puppy having some sort of problem on it?  It's just that, regardless of personal feeding prefs and opinions on foods, if your puppy is having some sort of issue with one type of food then it would be pretty pointless heading you towards something with similar ingredients :)

I wouldn't say shes having any problems. Its just what ive picked up on the boards that people don't recommend the supermarket bought foods.
I just want to be sure i'm doing the best for her.

Pedigree is available at some supermarkets but not a "supermarket food" :)

I've always found it upsets my dogs tums and this seems to be a fairly common problem.  If you're looking to switch to another dry complete, you could try one of these:  James Wellbeloved (variety of flavours), Wafcol Salmon & Potato (the better end of their completes), both available at PAH or possibly Arden Grange on the web Arden Grange

Pedigree is available through supermarkets so that it is easily available to the customer. Your breeder probably used the pedigree professional range and then pup is carefully put onto pedigree puppy complete ready for you to take him / her home.
I have never used pedigree UNTIL this litter and I would definately use it again, the puppies are fantastic to look at and have nice even temperments (they are not hyper). Unless you have a problem with the puppy I would try to stick with what pup is used to. I really hope my puppy buyers will.

I think it depends on the dog - I found it gave my boy terrible wind.  He could clear a room.  When he was at puppy training someone actually asked if he was having Pedigree complete puppy food so I think the problem is fairly common.

Unles you have a problem with this food, I would continue with it.  If your pup is growing well and still eating it ok - what's the problem?  I hate it when my puppy owners contact me after a few weeks concerning diet - I always ask why have they changed the food and to try what I weaned them on again - this has always been the answer.

Sorry to go against the grain, but if you want to feed a quality food then pedigree definitely does not fall into that category! There are so many better foods out there, there is no need to feed  foods with derivatives,by-products and loads of grains and cereals to our pets anymore.

My picks would be

Orijen
Timberwolf
Arden grange
Solid gold
Wafcol S&P

Most of the above can be looked at,at http://www.zooplus.co.uk

Joanna i have sent you a pm.Just click on messages up the top of the page.
