im working on a class plan, for 4-5 week block puppy play and training sessions. most of the people have owned and competed with dogs before, so i want to make it really interesting, i have lots of ideas of what i would like to include, im wondering if anyone else holds the same type of classes, or those with puppies could tell me the type of things they would like covered in an ideal class?!

the pups in question will all be destined for agility later on in life ( all being well of course!) so it all needs to be play, toy motivation etc type of stuff!!

so come on....hit me with more ideas please!! :-D

Towards the end of our 6 week puppy class we did an "agility session" obviously nothing too strenuous - just walking over the bars etc but was an introduction to the equipment for the pups and something different.
We also did food refusal. Making the pups ignore plates of chicken and treats.
Variation is the key.
Was good to start the session with a refresher and going over what we'd already learnt but then in the second half of the lesson being introduced to something new.
Also good to talk about nutrition, laws&legislations(i.e.dogs must wear id tags in public) and different training methods.
People in the class may already have owned dogs in the past but things may have changed since then and its always good to mention new ideas. Dog owners (no matter how experienced) should never get complacent :-)

Hear Hear!

Even tho Mitz is fully trained I still do 15 mins training with her everyday and out on long walks she has to do tricks to get a throw of her ball :) She loves it!

We are starting puppy courses soon, an early days class for pups aged 12-18 weeks.

Cant think of what I would like to see more of in these classes.....youve stumped me there! lol Suppose fun games are great for pups and parents, something like fetch and retrieve games and also recall training is always good :) But can make it harder like they have to navigate through other pups on lead to get to their mum or dad when called, would be an achivement if they managed it!!!! lol

Remember doing something like that at Puppy classes Rach. Eventually Freddie made it back.
Think the important thing is to have fun. The class is about learning training methods but also interacting with your dog and finding what they enjoy and what works best.
have been trying to think of other situations but cant come up with any. May look at trainers websites (if they have any) and see what different classes offer. Im intrigued now!!
