Hi Guys,
Just had Baillie back from the grooming parlour again as he was honkin ..
He's 11, has arthritis and can't walk very far at all .. he would .. it's his legs that wont :)
As a result of this, he tends just to potter round the back garden, which I
have landscaped and decked, with raised planted areas but no grass.
I don't know whether it's unusual for a dog or not, but he has never cocked his leg,
which wasn't a problem while he was out and about outside during walks
but obviously urinating now for him is presenting a huge problem for both of us,
as he's taking so long to pee, it's just pooling at his paws and they're really smelly,
and I'm sure he doesn't appreciate it much either.
I do try and pop them in the bucket and give them a wash every other day ..
I just cannot get rid of the smell from them ..
Any ideas, I use Cromessol on the slabbed area that the dogs have access to and
outside doesn't smell at all! We have a front garden with lawn and borders, but with all the wet weather
we've been having, it's very wet and muddy .. That's the job this summer :)

What breed is he?>? has he got alot of hair???
Lea :)
Hey Leah , he's a golden retriever, with loads of
hair :) He gets his legs shorn really quite short, purely
for his own comfort really, but it doesn't seem to help
with keeping the smell at bay ...

Only other thing is wash his paws before he comes in every time. Which will be a right pain in the backside If he wees as much as my old artheritic dog did :(
Really hope you are able to find something to make life easier :)
Lea :)
how about the waterproof dog boots you can buy? when he comes in just remove them and wash.
might be worth a go??

Could you make a small gravelled area where he could go and wee so that the wee sinks straight into the gravel and doesn't have a chance to reach his paws. If you put the gravel inside a small raised border which you put on top of a paved area you could then rinse the gravel through to stop it smelling but the edging would keep the gravel contained. It wouldn't have to be a high edging just a couple of inches or so which shouldn't create too much of a problem for his poor old legs :) The rinsing water would be able to run out from under the edging but the gravel - as long as it isn't too small - should stay contained.
We have a GR as well and he too only ever squats like a girlie :)

I was going to suggest a gravel patch as well. My Newfie will always choose gravel to pee on if available over all other tyoes of surface and I think it's because she doesn't get wet paws on gravel.
Thanks I didn't think of creating a separate gravelled area ..
I'll talk that over with hubby as he's a builder, maybe we could
knock something like that up ..
Lorripop .. doggie boots .. I'm about to go google them, people
already think I'm a pork pie short of a picnic anyway .. lol :) :)
If it makes life easier, I'll give it a try
Hey,
We're going to sort a little gravelled edged area for him to wee
over the weekend ..
Hopefully that'll help a bit, and I looked into the 'boots' thought they
were quite a good idea but thought OH was going to die laughin .. :)
SO we'll plump for the gravel first ...
Thanks though

Hi Sharon
My dobe has been weeing on his paws for a while now too... I find if ican get him on the grass it doesn't splash!!!!! you can also try filling a spray bottle of weak diluted dog shampoo, after each wee just spray the wee areas :-) I find this is easier that getting those darned feet in a bowl :-)
Good luck... we are soooo lucky to have them....
