Topic Dog Boards / Health / in season

My bitch is approaching 6 months and I wonder if anyone can tell me some signs to look for so I know that she is about to come into season?

Also, is it true that the dog can not be taken out for the 3 weeks around this time.  Can you go out on a lead and to places that you know will be quiet?

Thanks

There have been a number of threads about exercising in season.

I take my girls out on lead for road walking but would never take them anywhere where a dog might legitimately be off lead.

I am also lucky in that there are no latchkey dogs around here so walking the streets my bitch is safe.

It is in my opinion very unfair to walk an in season bitch anywhere where dogs have a right to be off lead as their owners will not know there is a bitch in season and their dogs may quite naturally disobey commands if they become aware of your bitch.

Usually before they come in season they will urinate small amounts more often, but this of course could also be a sign of a UTI.

When I expect a bitch in season I db her vulva each morning with white tissue to find the first trace of blood coloured discharge.
