Hi,
I fell totally in love with Otterhounds on my 2nd visit to crufts yesterday. They look so gentle and are stunning. I could imagine them loving a good run and getting completely filthy..........just my type of dog. Its not likely ill be getting one in the near future but i hope one day when we move somewhere with a bit of land to add one to my family. Is anyone on the forum owned by these lovely dogs and could tell me a bit more about them?

My sister in law recently got a 12 - 18 month old rescue which is suspected to be an otterhound cross (possibly with an Irish Wolfhound) although she likes to refer to him as a 'mudhound' - he's always covered in it! He is the sweetest, gentlest dog and is like a big teddy bear. He can play a bit rough at times but its only puppy play - you forget he's a puppy because of his size and a firm 'no' soon stops him. At the moment hes not had enough training to be let of the lead but they are working on that and he adores all people and other dogs, despite the fact he dwarfs most of them!

we have 30  along the lane! all i can tell you is that compared with my hounds they are a trifle smellier and a trifle noisier!

wow, 30????????? That must be very noisy!!!!!! I can imagine them being a bit stinky with coats like they have and hounds are notorious for being noisy too aren't they! Still couldn't resist that big soppy face!!!

Oooh they are beautiful though.

My mums friend also had a rescue that was part otterhound (the mum otterhound was found pregnant and abandoned :-() and she was lovely.  No idea what she was crossed with though.

She wasn't too noisy but she did smell a bit but this was usually only when wet and not dried out properly.

Sorry I can't be anymore help!
