Now that i have added a new doggy addition to the family my car is no longer big enough so i have invested in a renault van, it is fab. What i was wondering was, obviously it will be safer for the dogs to travel in crates rather than loose but can i just use the normal crates i use in the house or are there special ones that you can buy to go in vans??
If i can get away with it i would rather not shell out for new crates, but i just wondered as obviously they will need to be bolted to the floor of the van somehow and just want to make sure it is safe.
I have a transit which does have proper vehicle cages, but if i have to transport any extra dogs i have a big crate that i normally use in doors that i put behind the others. I fasten it to the D rings in the van with luggage straps. You should have D rings in your van to, which will make it easier.
agilitynet quite often have some advertised on the fleamarket 2nd hand which is where i found mine. companies i tried were - k9cages, steve tubbs (doggycages.com). there are a few metal fabricaors or blacksmith types that may be able to do what you need to your spec, i tried that but my local guy had a 3 month waiting list unfortunatley. luckily for me though i found a set made by a man called mick tozer to fit my make of van
Hi, I drive a Citroen Belingo, because of my dogs. Lintran do some excellent cages have had two different sizes. But they are very expensive. Look on ebay, you can pick them up as half the price! :-)
Are your dogs sound sensitive at all? If so, or if you're like me and can't stand rattling, you'll be far happier with a quiet car cage. I bought a Barnesbrook for my last car (a Skoda estate) and it was completely silent. (didn't stop my wuss from being too scared to get in it!) I have a Renault van now and it fits snugly in the back with the third row of seats out even though it doesn't go to the roof. I don't use it, I have a tailguard instead but my point is you might find a used one that fits your car. I've had mine advertised for half price so you can save a lot of money buying second hand if you can find one. Check the dog papers as the maker of the Barnesbrook recommends selling them second hand in Dog World.
