There's a pup sired by our dog , which has been exported, and is 4 months old now.   His new owner has not insured him.    I have had correspondence from the owner, who wished to stand him at stud eventually, to say  he has a high level of Creatinine to much for a puppy and some of the other counts are too little or too high but the Creatinine is the main one. There is a high level of protein in his urine .

She also says one of his eyes is lighter than the other.

She is claiming compensation from both myself and the bitch owner.

Now the sire has sired over 200 pups, and I have never come across this - certainly we couldn't have tested for the blood levels in an 8 week old pup.   I saw the pups myself at 7 weeks, and the eyes were just 'puppy eyes' .   It was the bitch's first litter (and also the first litter for her owner, who really doesn't need this, as she did everything right...)

I would appreciate any comments from people, especially if they've been in this situation

Raised creatinine and protein in the urine are indicators of impaired kidney function,  thats not something you could normally predict, what is the basis of her compensation claim?

Presumably she reckons that we own the sire, and the breeder owns the dam, therefore we're liable.

Apparently the kidney function test is fine, so I just don't understand what's going on.

For what it's worth, both parties signed the usual puppy contract along the lines of ' whilst every care is taken, no guarantee can be made as to the future show/working/stud potential of the pup'
