Topic Dog Boards / Health / Hip scores UK -Europe

Hi,

Does anybody know how the UK scores translate to European Scores (A to E)?
Has anybody ever done any comparing of the two or maybe had a dog scored in UK and in Europe...
I tried but Google did not tell me... :)

This is a bit out of date as Sweden now uses the letters rather than numbers, but it's the only one I know of:

Here is one on the OFA site http://www.offa.org/hipgrade.html bottom of the page.

Hi Noora

I must admit I really fancy getting my dogs done both here and in Europe (of course they are already done here).  There's a dog that I'm hoping to import some time this year and he will be BVA scored but is an A in Europe so it will be interesting to see what his score comes out here as he cannot be used until we have BVA results.

In my breed we have had a dog that was OFA graded BVA hip scored using the original x-rays and the scores agree, he was a good in USA and scored 10 here.

I think you can only compare directly if the same plates are used.

I don't see why a dog that is already hip evaluated in another country should need to be redone.

Friends have imported an A scored dog from Scandinavia at 7 years of age and no-one can see a reason to have to put him under an unnecessary GA.

Brainless we insist on BVA scoring all dogs over here in our breed, my import was one of the reasons why!!  Scored excellent in his country of origin which they said was similar to an A.  His score over here ended up being 41 !!  Bit of a difference as you can tell !

Luckily he has thrown good hipscored pups over here etc. and one of his great grandson's over here now has the lowest score in the country.  Yes he was hipscored over here at nearly 7 years of age and his exercise in his country of origin isn't something that we would do over here, scaling 7 foot walls and jumping off at a few months of age.

Luckily for me though I have been able to view scores abroad of his pups, grandchildren and great grandchildren which have nearly all been excellent!

Well unless you had his original plates scored eh may well have sustained such damage to his joints that his score at 7 was bad, that or something iffy about the scoring.

My Friend didn't score her boy that I bred until he was five and he scored almost exactly the same as his sister who was done at a year old in Australia who use the same scoring system.  I think she was a 3/4 and he was a 3/5 and he has a lot of exercise on the Quantocks.

He was only scored in country of origin a year before and I can't see much happening in that time.  It's actually insisted by our breed club that all are BVA scored as a number of people have other breeds and they said that the difference between scoring is actually frightening in some cases and totally different!

Thanks for your replies.
It is true the soring can be very different depending of the country.
Back home(Finland), it is well known fact some people take their dogs over the sea to Estonia to be scored as the scoring is not as tight as it is in Finland...

It would be interesting to see how one set of x-rays would do in different european countries!
