Hi all, help please!!!!!!! Kai, the working beardie pup is now 15 weeks old. He is so quick to learn everything, and a great pup, but I just cant get him clean. The first few days I had him,he was brilliant, but now is a pain in the ****.
I have tried everything I can think of, but no success.He will always go on paper, and I have gradually moved the paper outside. When I do this, he just pees on the floor instead. I used to leave the patio doors open for him to go in and out at will, but he still went indoors. If I shut him out, it dosnt matter how long I leave him out there, he will hold it till I let him back in, and then he pees on the floor straight away. I do have another option, I have a spare kennel so could leave him out there for a few days, he wouldnt have any option then, but I didnt really want to do this. Can anyone offer me any advice please?I take him outside as soon as he wakes, after he has eaten, and again when he has ben playing for a litle while.

Hi, this is one of the reasons I don't use paper but that is no good to you now. First your pup is still young so don't panic, is it just pee or does he poo indoors too, if it is just pee he has not yet understood that you go out for that. Is it always in the same place if so clean the area well with soap and water, no bleach or disifectant, and then feed him at that place and continue to take him out. If you see him do it tell him off and take him out, if you don't see clean it up and ignore the fact. I know it is not nice but relax a bit it wont go on for ever, try to keep him on a floor where it will not cause damage, keep trying but don't get yourself upset about it, he will improve in his own time, promiss. Hi everyone and thanks for the replies. I have scrubbed the area (vinyl flooring so no real problem) with soapy water, bleach and all sorts. He does normally poo outside but always poos in the house overnight. I tell him off if I actually catch him doing it, but if I miss the naughty deed, I just ignore the fact that its happened. Sharon as you know he lives with Kloud who is two weeks younger than him, and she is now 99% clean. She will ask to go out, and he watches her pee and poo, and then comes straight back in and does it indoors. When I tell him off, he just "grins" at me and wags his tail.Little charmer!!! Thanks for the advice, Im not really worried about it, just felt that opinions would be most welcome.

Don't use bleach just soap and water, some bleach has amonia in it which will encourage the dog to pee on the spot. IMO he poos over night because he can't wait till morning at his age he is only aware he needs to go just before he does. Don't compare him with other pups they are all different he will be clean in his own good time, relax he'll get there and nothing you can do will make him hold on over night until his body is able to do so. Just to agree with Jackie's advice. The pup is still quite young to get everything right. But I know how you feel, Philippa. I am always so glad when the toilet training is over and done with. Don't worry, though, it will all come right in time.

Phil, Teelin was the same - clean at first, then she began 'decorating'. The problem with her was that I was missing her 'signals' and once we had worked them out all was well again. Have you tried keeping freshly soiled paper and putting some put on the papers outside? Can you also give your puppy area floor a real scrub with bleach? Its the only thing I know of that relly gets rid of the attractive pre-peed on areas. The other thing that helped with Teel was that Piranha began to 'tell' me when Teel needed out, but I presume you can't bring a house trained adult in as an 'early waaaarning system' because of Daisy?

God I know what you're going through!
When we got *Six*, our little Black & Tan Terrier, at 8 wks old last summer I treated her exactly as I would an 8 wk wolfie pup, but boy was it hard work!
She was just like Kai, go out and even watch Bayley wee or poo & then come in and wee.
I spoke to my vet in the end, as she has JRT's, and told her that I was worried I was doing something wrong as it usually only takes a few weeks for a wolfie to work it out, and she just laughed and said that I shouldn't be expecting her to behave like a wolfie and that she wouldn't even think about being clean till she was at least 9 mths! :(
So I just cleaned up, told her off and put her out if I caught her, ignored it when I didn't, and all of a sudden she clicked and started to cry by the back door to go out, she was 8 mths old.
I also had a prob with the fact that she knew she shouldn't do it and sometimes if she did a poo she would eat it, I think it was because if she got caught pooing she got told off so she tried to hide the evidence! So I got some herbal tabs from the pet shop and that stopped, but it was still a long while before she was clean.
Six is 13 months now and is perfect, she spends most of her time on top of a biggie. :D
