I'd want to know how much lamb meal there was, woudl be waning over 25%
- By ShaynLola Date 19.02.08 20:09 UTC
There are an awful lot of grains in it.
- By belgian bonkers Date 19.02.08 21:16 UTC
Looks not too bad.  Would prefer lamb meat meal, but at least meat is the first ingredient.  Looks like it's preserved naturally too instead of using that awful BHA,  BHT and Ethoxiquin (sp).

Too many grains, not enough meat IMO.
However it looks better than half of the crud available,at least it has an actual named meat source,no by-products,colours etc etc. You could do a lot worse, but also better.

Just as an aside my dogs wont eat dry foods packed with cereals/grains.For them it has to be meat based, which makes sense considering they are carnivore's ;)

>Belgian Bonkers-Would prefer lamb meat meal

Is there a difference between Lamb meal and Lamb meat meal
- By belgian bonkers Date 20.02.08 08:01 UTC
Lamb meat meal is just as it says, just the meat.  Lamb meal is all of the lamb, including bones etc.
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 20.02.08 09:20 UTC
I have major problems with my WSD and have tried him on many foods over the years (and not just for one small bags worth but for normally about 3 months), most things go through him and some food he is ok on but poos still not firm but very soft.  I am trying to find something for him to settle on permanantly.  He is very lean as a result and when we go through a really bad stage it looks like I dont feed him at all. I like the idea of the probiotics in this which I am sure will assist.

So far we have tried Burns (various flavours), JWB (various flavours), CSJ, Arden Grange.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 20.02.08 09:24 UTC
All my freinds who have GSD's with dicky digestion have foudn Arden Grange Lamb and rice suits theri dogs, not surprisingly as the foods makers have GSD. https://www.ardengrange.com/index.asp

What make of food is this?  You can PM me if you don't want to post it on the forum.  I'm just curious!

- By belgian bonkers Date 20.02.08 09:50 UTC
I used to use AG but found it more and more difficult to source after they decided they would no longer deliver to my area!
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 20.02.08 10:42 UTC
He is no good on Arden Grange - tried both of the flavours.

This is Genesis lamb and rice.
- By michelled [us] Date 20.02.08 12:19 UTC
genesis is a brill feed for Collies, it is the only food to keep weight on Flynn, though the Adult dog was more effective than the L&R (the Adult dog is Chicken instead of lamb), you dont have to feed much which is good! look on my Photobucket & you can see the good nick Flynn & Mav are in.
- By stitch8689 [gb] Date 20.02.08 12:46 UTC
It doesn't seem too bad, although it does have alot of grain. They seem to have made an effort to include some fruit and veg.
Like ktee says, its better than alot of foods on the market.
- By zarah Date 20.02.08 13:00 UTC
Flaxseed/linseed gives some dogs the squits (gives my colitis prone dog the major squits) and it seems to be in a heck of a lot of foods, particularly kibbles, and even moreso the more "natural" ones. I do think it's known for its laxative effects, and it's not recommended in people with IBS, IBD, colitis, etc as it's high in Omega 6 oils, which are inflammatory. Might be worth avoiding.

Have you tried a wet food such as Naturediet?
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 20.02.08 13:06 UTC
Hi Michelle

I know your dogs already from BWC.  Didnt know you fed Genesis.  But if your dogs are anything to go by thats a very good recommendation.

Have ordered a sack of the lamb & rice (we seem to have slightly better results with lamb based foods) which will hopefiully be here tomorrow so will see how he does on it.

Yes I have tried wet food as they have this in their kongs in the morning as their breakfast.  I dont really want to be feeding wet completely to be honest and when we have tried to give it go feeding completely it gives him the squits again.
- By michelled [gb] Date 20.02.08 20:14 UTC
Both me & Claire with indy/Paddy feed it!

I realise who you are now!

Belgian Bonkers where did you get this info from?
If it was just meat it would state Lamb meat or just lamb, the fact that it says meal makes it a meal.I think it's just labeling lingo.I'm pretty sure lamb meat meal and lamb meal are exactly the same thing.....
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 20.02.08 23:02 UTC
cool, hoping it will be here tomorrow so I can introduce it slowly after taking him off just plain rice which is the only thing that he has been able to stomach this week.

Here;s hoping.
- By belgian bonkers Date 20.02.08 23:04 UTC
No it would state "lamb MEAT meal".  I'm not getting into a discussion about ingredients.  I was stating what I would prefer for MY dogs.
- By Ktee [au] Date 21.02.08 13:03 UTC

>No it would state "lamb MEAT meal".

Sorry, that is just plain wrong information..

please guys dont argue over definitions about wording, please just agree to disagree.
- By belgian bonkers Date 21.02.08 14:14 UTC
That's what I was trying to avoid!  I'm now making good use of my ignore button.

Sarah.

Sorry dvnbiker this will my last post on the thread....

BUT

>I'm now making good use of my ignore button.

You have got to be joking! If a difference in opinions/facts warrants a press on the ignore button then you'll soon be ignoring alot of people.....

Sorry Ktee,
Was a bit harsh.  Have been having serious problems with one of my gang and don't need arguments just now.
