Can someone please help, i'm at my wits end with a few local dogs using my garden as a toilet, I have my suspicions but as it always happens when I'm not there I can't prove anything. I think the mess is now encouraging more dogs to "go" there as well. So my question is I really really don't have the stomach to lift another dogs' poo even with a shovel etc, is there anything  I can put on or around the offending "items" that will help break down the mess quicker & also something to discourage these dogs from going there again? It's a barked area by the way.

I'd get rid of the bark if I were you, as cats love it as a toilet area and so does every other critter too!

If you can predict with any accuracy when the poos will appear, it may be worth making a special effort to 'be there' to witness it ;)  I had a similar problem of a dog depositing right outside my gate regularly, so I waited in with a pile of poo bags and when the owner and dog appeared I waited until they were moving off and ran out saying "isn't it embarrassing and I hated running out of them myself", while brandishing the bags at her :-D  I got a right scowl but she picked up and it hasn't happened since ;)  (I was ever so nice LOL )

If she hadn't picked up she'd have found it on her doorstep with a note LOL

Failing that, a hose might stop them ;)

It's amazing who they turn out to be when you finally catch them in the act.  For us it's one of our nicest neighbours who lets his behemoth of a Lab run loose because he can't hold onto it. We can tell whose deposits they are by the size and the footprints in the snow leading back to his house.  We like the man and the dog and we are too gutless to say anything.  At a barbecue at their house last spring I was tempted to ask though, "oh, does he pee on your barbeque too?"

The article went in a few weeks ago and have had a few emails offering support. The amount of poo has definately decreased so the threat of naming and shaming seems to be working. I will be putting regular updates in and also have just bought a laminator ready to get some posters up about 'Neighbour Poo Watc' so the people who do not read the magazine will also be aware :-)

Why not put a little sign somewhere they can see as it will make them think :-)

Yes, I agree with the sign, just get a couple of pieces of wood, nail together to make a cross, make one end into a stake and then get an A4 piece of paper, with large typed words.

or words to that affect, get it laminated, (office world, or somewhere of the likes only cost approx £2.50)  Staple or nail it to the wooden stake, and then put in the borders of your garden, you could place two or three there.

But you are right - it is always those little errors that catch the eye :)
