Hi Cazmar. We have a choccy lab - Dylan (male). When we began researching, I too couldn't decide whether to have a dog or bitch. You hear many different opinions on whether a dog or bitch has the sweeter nature (I know I did!!! :). In my (humble) opinion, I think it depends on what you are looking for regarding temperament - lively, calm etc etc. We wanted a dog that would be good with our 4 year old daughter, so we went for the only dog in the litter, as he was a lot more 'laid back' (well as laid back as a lab can be :D) than his sisters. In a long winded kind of way, I am saying that we didn't decide on sex until we saw the litter and discussed with the breeder which pup would suit us best. Hope this helps :)

I'll tell you the same as i've said before on here. In my experience, women seem to prefer dogs and men bitches! Dont ask me why but there it is!!!!!

For years I had dogs then one day I got a bitch and since then there has been no competition. Of coures, if everyone thought like me there would only be one sex and dogs would then go extinct in one generation!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards, John

Got to agree with John- although I'm sure he's said it nicer this time- last time he said (I think) 'Could it be that Men prefer bitchy women'- or was that someone answering him:D I have a bitch but I'm going for a dog next time;) I chose a bitch because of the size and strength compared to a dog but now I think that's all crap as a bitch isn't that much weaker and good training's the real key:) Like you I'd probably go for the cutest if I did it again or should I say next time- I certainly wouldn't have not got Kassie(even though she has the nicest head of the litter);) Some people prefer dogs due to bitches having seasons etc? You can be rest assured that whatever you decide you'll love it because it's yours:)

What is it they say? A bitch is a problem twice a year, a dog is a problem all year round!!

I am going to see a litter on sunday, the only one not reserved is a dog. But like you say I will love it anyway.

I love both but have ended up with more bitches ..... I had such a great bond with one of mine that it sort of set the standard.

Interestingly I feel John may be right.....in our working trials group, all the women have male dogs - except me!!! :)
