Topic Dog Boards / General / Bitches brought back to us

Hi guys

In the last two weeks i have had two bitches brought back to me from the same litter. It's so annoying, you think when people buy a dog it should be with them for life.

The first little girl was brought back because the guy was having a knee operation and said he will be unable to give her the walks she needs.  so ok I had her back, the following day his wife was crying on the phone saying she wanted her back.  So off she went back home.  I then had a call two days later that the litter sister would be coming back to us because the woman couldn't cope with her ripping the house apart.  I got her back lastnight and she is such a little darling. I really like her and will probably keep her.  Re-train and show her.  Then another call from the lady her took her bitch back, her husband wasn't happy that she had collected the bitch and wanted her to come back to us!!!!  I was so upset.  I have told them I will look for a new home but can they keep her there until i find the RIGHT home.

Anyway I'm taking maddy to ringcraft tonight to socialise her and start the training.  Wish me luck :-)

The upside being at least they have come back to you and havent ended up in rescue.

It's part of breeding I am afraid.  Lucky they are still young it is much harder when they are oldies.  Even with the best vetting of potential owners I have found around 10% will need a change of home at some point.

well on the 3 ocassions I have had it happen to me I have made them sign the hounds over to me with clearly written and signed details of why they are doing it, so there can be no misunderstandings at a later date.

just off to training now. I'll let you know how she gets on.  Looking at her feet, it looks like she had very little road work.  Looks like I'll be doing allot of extra walking....over gravel!

What a bummer!
I hope you get things sorted out with the babes.
They say that things happen for a reason, perhaps this little girl was destined to stay with you.

It is a downer but I would be very pleased like said before they were brought back to you and not just chucked in a shelter!

I had one lady that had one of our pups in the paper and he was only coming 4 months, I went over there and told her I would buy him back the next day since it was late, he seemed very shy and weed when he came close but in all a sweety. When I called her the next day she already sold him, I tell you I wasn't pleased. Found out later on that her and her hubby weren't getting along and she sold the pup on him- grrr!! Some people... Thats what I heard but you never know rumors...

I too would be glad atleast they rang you up instead of selling the pup on...

My OH got his first Golden through an ad in the local paper, took a friend with him who is a breeder and it turned out to be a pup sired by her dog! I think the people got a lecture as they had the contact details for both the dam and sire owners if the pup had to be rehomed for any reason. She was only 12 weeks old, now nearly 10 years and the nicest pet you could have, their loss.

Training went really well.  She was a little nervous going in.  Dont think she had much interaction with other dogs...liked the little ones but unsure of the big ones.  I stacked her up no probs, when she got into it she really enjoyed it.  Tooolz i think you maybe right!  This was the bitch we were going to keep from the litter, but decided to run the dog on.  The dog only had one testicle and was neutered and put into a pet home, now she's back with us.  I'm going to try and get some head shots of her this weekend and put her on my website, she's such a sweetheart.  May even enter her into the welsh !!!
Lots of walking/training ahead of us before that though :-)

My first champion came back to me at 8 1/2 months, she was so OTT that it would have taken a while to get her manners acceptable, so I kept her.

Reesy,
It sounds very positive and woudn't it be a great result if she turns out happy and successful back home with you.
I'm glad for you - good outcome.

Wow Brainless, what a stroke of luck. Whenever I have a litter I spend endless night lying awake wondering if I've sold a potential champion to a pet home. I know somebody who runs all his pups on to six months just in case, (luckily for him he only has a litter about once evry five years).

I knew she was the pick of the litter and had hoped her owners might show her.  I didn't keep her as I wanted to keep a pup from her Mum's next litter to space my dogs out more, with a long lived breed you soon get overdogged if you keep them all their lives.  I waited four years before keeping the next one.

Had a fab weekend with Maddie, she's really coming out of herself.  Still a little unsure of my male.  To put the icing on the cake my other bitches are bring her into season.  Better to have them all in at the same time :-)
Didn't manage to get any pics done, but will let you know when i do.
