Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / "spiky coat" symptom of pregnancy

Hi All,

From 2 days from when my girl was mated she has shown this funny symptom. It is like she is cold and her coat on her back stands up slightly - but not as much as when the "hackles" come up. She is a short haired breed and does it on and off mostly for just an half an hour in the mornings - not everyday though. I am sure I read on hear years ago of somebody elses bitch doing this.

Do anyone elses pregnant bitches do this? Do you think it can be classed as a sign of pregnancy? Do you know why it happens?

Looking forward to your comments,
Aimi.

That sounds like a 'staring' coat, sometimes a symptom of them feeling unwell. I've never seen a pregnant boxer do it but have seen poorly ones have it. She may be feeling under the weather for what ever reason........ hormonal, moody??  It is usually accompanied by a very 'sorry for my self' face and a tucked up tummy.

She hasn't got a tucked up tummy anymore !!!!!!!   :0)

Yeah, it is like she's feeling iffy - maybe the changing hormones like you say.
Doesn't last long though.

Thanks for replying.
