so, its now 3 and a half weeks since i found tons of fleas and frontlined my 2 girls. today they were chewing their bums and low and behold- more bloody fleas! have frontlined again today even though its not quite a month since last time. i have decided i may need the house fumagated as i presume they are breeding in the carpets with the mild weather and heating on. council charge £55. does anyone know how long it takes? and can dogs walk back on the carpets straight away? council are ringing me back but does anyone know? thanks

You can buy products from the Vet for the house that stop the fleas breeding for a year.

you also may want to treat your dogs with "Advocate" this will kill the eggs too, like the stuff for the household furnishings does, but you won't be able to treat with it for a couple weeks now as you have just used the Frontline on them
Fleas can and do live in your furnishings. The eggs can lay dormant until conditions are ripe. Oops, I mean right ;-) Go to your vets and ask them for a spray and do everywhere. Keep the dogs out of the way while you do it. Please read the instructions on the can and follow the guidelines properly. I've had an argument with someone who has fleas in the house and didn't treat properly and the dogs are still infested. They are doing it right this time round though :-)
I now go through my dogs coats on a weekly basis (or more if they are scratching a lot) with a nit comb bought from the chemist for about 50p. That way, as soon as I spot a flea I can treat them.

Get the council in straight away - only £55!!! I had to have my house done 20 odd years ago and I paid nearly £100 - this was cat fleas though. We had the guys in at 9pm and by the next morning the fleas were all dead and we never had a reoccurrance of them. If its a big infestation you'll spend as much trying to get rid of them yourself with sprays. The pest controllers have the good stuff, kills them stone dead and the eggs. Pets stayed in our house the whole time. Hope this helps.

Most fleas on dogs and cats are cat fleas.
Once used th stuff from the vets even though I don't think we had them in the carpet. We have since removed all but the stair carpet.
I'll always remember the vet telling me; out of ten fleas, only one will be on the animal. The other nine are on carpet, upholstery, curtains, etc. Yuo will never get rid of fleas if you keep treating the animal but not the house.
just to update have ordered the non pesticide skoosh spray. the council said i had to keep dogs out for 4 hours after fumigating and i couldnt hoover for 3 weeks! impossible. i panic if i dont hoover daily! thanks for your help
Great let me know how you get on with it

We have three dogs here and before we got the little one we never had a problem with flea's. I thought it was because the wee girl had long ears and was picking them up on walks .(never had to buy as much frontline before the little cav came ) But we have now narrowed it down to my daughter taking the little girl to her friends, who have three cats and a flea problem. We have mostly laminate floors and leather furniture here except for upstairs and we treated everything we could, but the cav kept getting the fleas, so we have come to the conclusion that it must be her visits to the cathouse that gives her the fleas, so when she has been there she gets a dynamite (wish i could link it ,,, sorry someone will soon )bath and we are not too bad now.
