hi, we have a staffy pup who is nearly 14 weeks old, the problem is all he seems to want to do is bite and jump up at me, he dosnt bite my partner the same as me and he takes more notice of him than me, when i tell him off he shows a nasty little face to me, im worried that the puppy dosnt like me what can i do to help,  and when will his teeth start to fall out, a friend as told me to get him a fresh bone at the moment he his having raw hide bones
thanks

He is a pup and is probably teething, pups love to play and use their mouths.
Get him some good bones and hard dog chews for him to chew on, when he starts to nip you, offer him his chew/bone.
If he is favouring your partner, then perhaps make sure you are the one that feeds him everytime, walks him, and if he does not listen to your command then put him in the kitchen for a 5 minute time out. xx

Hi jayj

he is a puppy and full of natural exuberance plus prone to over excitability (typical of them all, not just SBTs :) )

Try not to over excite him, if you decide on a time-out plan it is better to leave him alone for one or two minutes by removing yourself from the room rather than lift him into another (as by definition this rewards his behaviour - the physical contact being attention).

I have always used and recommended the method of training bite inhibition in pups and over many dogs in numbers and in years it has never failed me.  Hopefully if you read THIS ARTICLE and print off a few copies to share among household members and visitors you will end up with a happy, well adjusted, friendly little guy who learns what is and isn't acceptable :)

best wishes, Teri

Edited to add soak a couple of tea towels and always have one in the freezer - a good way of soothing sore gums during the teething process (along with the other suggestions you have :)

thanks for your replys i have tryed leaving him for a few mins, and he howls and when i go back in to the room he still bites me, im finding it hard to stop him jumping at me and biting and he is biting hard, we have had a staffy before and she seemed alot easier to train, although this puppy we have now is house trained he seem to have picked that up quick,

Hi again jayj,

it's very early doors in the training stage for a puppy - despite the pain they can inflict with those dagger sharp but needle sized teeth :)

Please take the time to read, print off and follow the article I linked to above - it is a very effective method of bringing about a safe stop to this perfectly normal puppy behaviour.

regards, Teri
