Simple question really; how much on average do 12week old puppies sleep?

thanks for any help x

quite a lot of the time from memory!
I suppose it depends on breed but the ones I have had seem to play, eat, wee etc, run around like a whirling dervish and then drop fast asleep and then they start again :)

I have two goldens and both of them were about the same - sleep one hour, up for 2-3 hours; at night they slept from 10-11 until 3ish, out for a wee then back to sleep until 6. By 16 weeks they would make it until 5-6 AM without needing to go out. At one year my puppy is up for 1-2 hours, asleep 3 hours - who ever said puppies sleep a lot didn't have mine. : - D

Ditto Lori :) I find Harley sleeps more now, at 2 years old, than he ever did as a puppy.

Nor mine - at 8 weeks they are fighting or playing most of the time! :-D

I've never had a pup that sleeps all the time, I've often heard it said that it is ok to go out for upto 4 hours as a pup will sleep, but never seen that myself. I can only think they would sleep out of boredom not necessity.

A usual scenario from my experience at 12 weeks, is up and about playing for approx 30 mins, sleep for upto an hour then up again for a mad runabout and some training, then sleep if the mind is more tired for perhaps 1.5 hours, I can't recall a young pup sleeping continuously during the daytime for much longer than that. :-)

As they get older they sleep for longer, but then they are up for longer too. :-)

In my experience pups sleep often, but not for long spells at a time, which is why they shouldn't be left for longer than about an hour at a time.

Jeangenie, that is what I meant to say, they sleep OFTEN but not for long between mad spells of play, eating and generally getting into mischief!

When my pup was 12 weeks i cant remember much-i was knackered. As i have not got children i didnt quite realise what a broken nights sleep can do to you!! :-)
Like the rest of you i found he had lots of little naps but was never asleep for a very long time.
To be honest i think they sleep more as they get older, but then they also play for longer too. I would think breed probably makes a difference aswell.
