Hello welcome to CD. I've not got a malamute but am familiar with the breed and have got a Siberian Husky. Do you do any scootering/racing?

Yes, they get on very well together and also get on great with our other dog  We live in the South-East :)

Can I just ask if they usually get on well with strange dogs when out? We sometimes walk with a young male mal and he's great with dogs he knows but is quite dominant with strange males we come across. Is he typical of the breed? Also do any of you let your dogs off lead around other dogs? The owner of the mal I walk with doesn't seem to think there will be a problem (dog is 15 months old now) but to be honest he knows little about the breed.

hi in answer to your questions our dog will walk  towards them  as if stalking then rush up to the other dog/dogs have a sniff and maybe a growl but will then play, doesn,t like small black dogs or terrier type ones, i think with a young dog letting him off the lead would best be done away from roads etc as they have no sense off danger and will run in the road regardless of cars. coming back to the owner is the problem as they tend to please themselves WHEN and IF they come back. depends on how voice trained they are. it was a while untill we let ours off and that started in an enclosed field. he now walks  free along the canal for miles and he won,t stray to far.

Hello, I've got 5 Mals ranging from 20 months up to 7 years. Where in the country are you? We may be able to point you in the direction of a local meet :-)

Hi Mallie, welcome to champdogs! I have a Mal and a Cavalier King Charles, a big variation in breed type, but they get on really well. Our Mal is fab and a real personality - she's so clever. Sadly she has a rare condition that affects her breathing and movement so she can't do things like sledding or walking long distances but that just makes her even more special to us :-) What is your boy called?
