The judge we had today had several people complaining that he immediatly liked certain dogs and ignored others in the ring. My dog was not his type which is no problem for me, but he turned his back on me and another exhibitor without a second glance, even when I was taking my boy around the ring. People said to me when I came out the ring " That was so rude, cant believe he did that".   I am not a sore loser as I am aware everyone has an off day, but my £20.00 entry fee, what was that for ????  Can a complaint be made about such a shabby unprofessional judge ??

I dont know about a complaint... but i have found that in the ring as well, a lot of discrimination occurs with dogs and their handlers

I have found i have been placed second or third because of my age, even when i have been told my dog was best.. just because the judge thought the older lady had more experience therefore had to win!

Its not fair, i agree, but it does occur! And if they dont like the breed, despite how well they walk and if they are the best, they arent given a second look

Sorry to hear that maybe you could report it to the kennel club?.... Just a thought, not much experience in that to be fair and im learning slowely to be a judge haha

Im pretty sure you can make a complaint to the Kc as a very similar thing happened to my friend. I recall that she had to pay £34 for some reason though!!!!!!!!! I think it is truly disgusting. Regardless of type or colour all dogs should be assessed the same, we all pay the same fee. Ive also had this at a couple of shows as my goldens are quite dark and some judges, though few and far between these days, colour judge, and completely ignore anything other than very pale, and im sure it happenes the other way round too!
Sorry you had such a crappy judge. Hope the next show is better for you!

We had a champ show judge once who did not give you time to set your dog up , then he lightly touched the top of the dogs head and it's croup then told you to move and while you were moving he watched the judging in the next ring !!

Closer to the end of the year it gets really political here.  The best time it seems if you are a newbie is to get out right after the announcement of Best Dog in Canada awards. 
Had a judge tell my handler once, as she was being handed the second place ribbon, that my dog was better, than the one she put up for winners bitch.  The other dog had a collie head (like the collie head, but not on a min pin!) and didnt hackney at all.  The hackney gait is worth 50 points alone!!!!!!  My aunt wanted to put a protest in, but it costs 100 dollars, and it takes the CKC up to 6 months to revew it, so the judge complete forgets about the dog he put up.
Here, if you are a pro handler, it seems you win.  Other than the toy breeds, most are handled by pros.  Even in the toy group, there are still a lot that are handled by pros.  The judge figures, well they arent going to take a crap dog, so they must have the best dog.

I just walk away, and remember that judge is very political, and dont enter under them again.

My girl's first ever show happened to be a Club Champ show, just the way the dates worked. Now she's not really Champ quality and particularly as a puppy she was very big for her age and her head still had a long way to go. But I was very annoyed to find the judge waving me off to the end of the line and starting to go over the next dog before I was halfway back from moving up and down. My girl certainly wasn't top quality then (and isn't now!) but I had paid my money and deserved a proper look!

Arent we all supposed to get three minutes of the judges attention when we pay the entry fee?
(3 minutes = the time for the up and back, free stack, go over, and around the ring)

There is one particular Group judge who does not award my breed CC's but had judge us without.

I really enjoy showing under him at breed and group level.

In the breed he gives each and every dog the exact same attention, and is kind to the exhibits and polite to the owners.  I watched carefully as he examined and watched an obvious also ran belonging to a breed supporter given her moment centre stage.

In the group on another occasion I was very grateful that he came over to each exhibitor (I have very limited eyesight) and told us exactly where and how we were to move.  he also came across to each exhibitor to place them so there was no doubt who had been pulled out.

He also has a good memory for a dog.  Another lovley judge to shwo under (an I ahve nefer doen anythign great under him (I don't think) is our top all breeds judge Terry Thorn.

Hmmm my breed had a judge that was on his mobile also as one of his dogs was being shown elsewhere and he was finding out how it had got on. He looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. He couldn't have looked less interested if he had tried. I swore I would never enter under him again and never have.

To make a complaint you really have to complain to the secretary and put your money (cash, no cheques allowed) up front for the complaint to be forwarded to the KC. Had something happen to me once, many many years ago, were a judge asked me to move, but I heard him talking so looked back to see him with his back to me asking the steward to get him a cup of coffee. If that happened to me now I would stop and just go up to the judge and tell him I was taking my dog out of the ring and telling the show secretary why. I am a lot older and wiser now.

I've had this ..being judged by a novice judge who, whilst I was running my dog, was talking to the stewardand who had their back to me ;) :-D

Ive seen judges a couple of times turn to look at the next dog when the first dog was still moving.

This happened to me under the Late Joe Braddon during my first real season of showing.  I was moving my dog up and back and as I was turning round I glanced at him to make sure my line was straight.  He was chatting to someone outside the ring!  I stopped dead and waited - and waited - and waited!  Eventually he looked up and I asked him (from the other end of the ring!) if he was ready to judge my dog properly now.  He burst out laughing - finished the class - then gave my dog first and BOB!  We became firm friends after that LOL.  He really was a law unto himself :-D

I don't think I'd tolerate it so much nowadays though...

Ahh love that story about Joe Braddon, similar to the one of my mum winning BOB, she was in so much shock that her jaw literally hit the floor.  we hadn't been showing long at the time.

Wow, that's a great story! I think the 3 minute rule is roughly how long the class should last, 3 minutes per dog, but there's no way of enforcing it really.
