hi my hubby is in the army, and as where looking for a lab puppy he mentioned that the army sell off there dogs occasionally. some are older and some are about 2, i know you cannot always be certain of temprament, but do you think its a good idea to go for one of these dogs? we have a 2 year old child also.

My first GSD was an RAF reject and the best dog I've ever owned, we had to go to an instructor with him that they stipulated so that we learned about the dog and his training etc. I worked him everyday in the communial yard of our quarters with the kids in their buggies etc always did well with him in obedience comps too.

I think you have to be prepared to work them daily as that's what they're used to and I personally enjoyed it and was very proud of my chap we used to take him to the interservice cricket matches and he's spend the whole time under my chair ----- until the ball was hit for a 6 by the opposition then he'd appear and do a runner with the ball before it went over the line lol.
