Hi,
hoping for advise!! one of my most recent labrador bitches has not yet had a season whislt being in my possesion she was born may 06 but i have only had her since aug 07 and she is yet to show signs of a season.

Well some bitches don't have a season until over 18 months of age, though more usually a first season is anything from 6 months in small breeds to about a year.

You had her at 15 months so she may well have had a season before you had her and isn't due one yet.  The average inter season length is about 7 months though 5 to 10 month intervals are the norm for some breeds and bitches.

All you can do is wait, though I would try and find out from her previous owner if she has had a season ans what the pattern of inter season duration is for her Mothers lines.

hi,
i have a cocker bitch that i bred and as yet (she is 2 years old on 25 april) has never had a season.  does anyone have any suggestions?

maybe a silent heat - my one bitch doesnt show any signs of being in heat.  She just slightly swells, but no bleeding at all.

Maybe thats why your cocker (and maybe the lab) hasnt showed signs of being in season.

One of my cocker girls was 2 weeks off being 2 before she had her first season, her mum is every 9 months, and had her first at 9 months, so it's now 9 months since her first season so we're waiting to see when her second arrives.  We took her to the vet, who did full blood works and said as far as he could tell there wasn't any problems, just a case of waiting for nature.

one of my bitches had her first season at 2yrs and her second at 3yrs exactly so I am presuming she will only have 1 season a year, bit of a pain if I wanted to have a litter from her!

if you only got her 5 months ago she could easily be due in season next month? do you know if she had a season with last owners as you only said while in your posession?

Our Boogie had her first season at 22 months.   She's 2 years 8 months now, and not sign of a second season yet.   I guess she'll go a year between.

thanks for all the advise it really did put my mind at ease for a bit, but strangely a couple of days after i posted this question bailey came into season! it was like she knew!

Ahh so pleased about that.  Someone on a gundog site was getting worried about his dog too and we said not to worry until she was around 2, sure enough she came into season a few weeks later.

one of my bitches had her first season at 10 months and second at 23 months.  It is normal to breed at 18 months in my breed and I did so.  However now 5 months have passed since her litter being born and still no signs of that third season.  When it does come though then you REALLY know she is in season !!  Never had a bitch with such a discharge during her season.
