I've caught a stray cat and have taken her to get spade this morning (the cat trap worked!!!!) and I cant believe how much it costs to get her spade!!!

If shes pregnant already then its £90, if not then its £50! Ive got a voucher from the cats protection but thats only for £28 so I have to put the rest to!!!

It's becoming a bit of a habit this cat catching thing ;) :D

I can't remember how much my two kittens cost for speying but wasn't overly surprised when i paid the bill :)

I can't understand why the CPL don't cover all of the cost as you could have turned up on one of the helpers doorsteps and dumped it with them then who would have to pay the difference ?

This is my kittens mum so its in my best interest to get her spade so that she doesnt have any more kittens! Theres another cat up there thats really loving and lets you stroke it and the CPL are going to try and re-home her for me. I think if speying was cheaper more people would probaly take cats to be done.

Actually that is cheaper than it would be around here.

Ahem, and I'm going back a few years now, we had 2 cats from a farm, male and female.  I took the female to be spayed and it was £120.  I must be going back 8 or 9 years now.  And she wasn't pregnant, just didn't want her to be.  Pets are an expensive business aren't they :)  And in fact I'm still with the same vets - and they're still quite dear, but they're good :)

when I had my little tortie spayed about 2 years ago was 70.00 whether pregnant or not and she was probably pregnant but I didnt want to know because I would have felt bad if she was even though it would be better for her because she was only 6 months old,

Aah, you'll have saved more than £40 AND a lot of worry, as you'd probably have ended up trying to do the best for them Tracey.

Well done you.

whilst you get her spade, why not pick up a fork as well? :0
:)

 Took me a while to wonder what you meant!

At least the whole kitten saga will be over.

On a more positive note the CPL have room for the other cat so she'll be going to a lovely home hopefully.

Thats my good deed done for the year! I dont want to have to look after/rescue anymore animals this year! :)

Well done you have done them proud :cool:

I dont want to have to look after/rescue anymore animals this year Once bitten ( not in the actual sense ;) :D ) I can see you doing this again :D

That does seem very expensive. I've just checked my vets website and its £38 to cat have a female cat spayed.

you must be very proud of yourself for what you have done.

Ok, well I went to pick her up and there were a few complications!

Firstly they sedated her because shes feral, got her out of the cage and even with heavy sedation she went beserk. They had to put her back in the cage and try again after a while (not sure if they anaesthetised her in the cage).

They thought she was pregnant because of her distended belly so they did a full opening of her stomach only to find she wasnt pregnant but had a gut full of food. When I caught her in the trap she did eat the food in there (about 1/2 - 3/4 of a sachet) and I did tell them this but the nurse said because she was so scared it probably slowed her metabolism down. Anyway she says shes never seen anything like this before. (Just my luck to have a weird cat!)

They did the spey and have sewed her up. Normally with strays you can let them out the same day its done (apparently) but because she went through "major surgery" (Nurses words not mine) they wanted me to keep an eye on her for at least 24 hours.

I said I could so she is now infront of the radiator on a blanket which I managed to sneak in. The only thing is because shes feral Im not sure she'll know what a litter tray is.

Oh and it cost me £65.00 for the pleasure! Apparently it should have cost more because she had the full whack surgery but because Im doing it out of kindness they didnt charge me as much! No take away meals for me this month! (I also took my kitten and she had her 1st injections so all in all it cost me £121! - Ouch!!!)
