General / help,do i have to quarantine dog/passport-pets from turkey?
Hi
I moved over to Turkey 3 years ago with my perfect cocker spaniel, but now due to health reasons i must return to the uk. I do not particularly want to put my dog into quarantine she is my baby and has been treated as such, its so frustrating as she left england with a rabies vaccine and is up to date on the boosters. Could she get early release? Also i have heard that maybe she could go via france has anyone ever done this or know anything about it? I would appreciate any advice.
If I do need to put her in quarantine has anyone got experience with Bayton Lodge in warwickshire or Fourinhand in Bedfordshire Quarantine Kennels?

hi ive not long had my girls pet passport done, i know i had to wait till her blood test was ok after her rabies jab before i could take her out of the uk ,but wouldn't be able to bring her back until 6 months after her blood test. ive found this web site which may be able to answer some questions you have, hope it will be of some help. www.defra.gov.uk

She will have to be in a country covered by the Pet Passport for 6 months before being able to come to the UK (this must also be more than 6 months from the date of a satisfactory blood titre test).
Assuming that she has had the Rabies and the Blood Titre test. The Rabies vaccine has to be administered after she was chipped. Otherwise she will have to do the usual 6 months quarantine. Early release is only for dogs that otherwise satisfy the Pet Passport scheme but are coming in on a non approved route, so have to go into quarantine on entry until paperwork checked.
You should be able to find the up to date rules on the DEFRA website
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/index.htm
thanks, i am still confused though on what to do!
I think that i may use cani-excel over in france for the six months instead of quarantine because they get walked etc and dont have to stay in that quarantine kennel for 6 months (i think this is so cruel). It is frustrating because i originally came from england with her to turkey and she has consistently had the rabies vaccine and is still up to date with this, but still she has to go through quarantine! anyway maybe the french option will be the best! does anyone have experience with this?
thanks again

but i thought that if they were up to date with the rabies vaccinations they didn't have to go in quarantine, i understood that you have the rabies jab have the blood test and when the results come back if they are ok you can go abroad which is what you must have done orginally, but you cant return to the uk until 6 months have passed after the test, but once that has passed you could come and go as long as your jabs are up to date, i wanted to move abroad and am still waiting to, but that was my understanding mine had her ok blood results in august so come feb i thought i could say take her over on holiday with me then return without quarantine else how can people go on holiday with pets if every time they come back they are quarantined? i also was told recently that you have to have the rabies jab done every 2 years so if you have kept that up to date you should i think be ok? but if you look up the website brainless gave you they have so much on their it gives you all the correct info!

Only if they are in a country covered by the Pt Passport scheme as being Rabies free or low risk, Turkey is neither. The dog would have to spend 6 months in a Pets qualifying country to be able to come into UK, assumign it has it's other Pet pasport qualifications, chip, blood titres after chipping and Rabies vaccs, up to date Rabies tick and tapeworm meds before entry etc.

i didn't realise turkey wasn't covered sorry,is bulgaria covered brainless cause thats where i wanted to move to?and its next door to turkey!
yes bulgaria is covered although you have to be careful what route you take, check on the defra website for approved ones. Bulgaria is an option for me. I could take her into bulgaria for six months and wait for blood test results etc , or i could take her to france and put her in a lovely kennels again for six months until the blood test results, anything has to beat quarantine in england. I am howvere confused how i could take her from Turkey to either france or bulgaria, are there no problems doing this?
Turkey infact is not however a high risk country for rabies, it is a huge country however and maybe some parts have still got cases, but certainly in the area i live there have been no reports of rabies for a good few years and also all stray dogs are vaccinated etc.

What area of Turkey are you in? (just being nosey :) )

I know a lovely couple in England that are just moving to France with kennels, don't know whether they'd be willing to take your dog on, you could always have a word with them?
I am in the antalya region on the med coast, it is stunningit is such a shame to be coming back to the uk, but health reasons mean no more sunshine and breakfasts on the balcony for me.
yes perrodeagua i would love to speak to your friends opening a kennel i will pm my email address
has anyone heard of 'importingapup' a french family who fosters puppies for the 6 months before returning to the uk?

I'm sure you must be gutted to be returning to the UK. I have a friend living in Fethiye...it's so beautiful there; I can see why she has no intention of returning home. She has a little dog too that she got from the local rescue place. I love going to visit :-)
A member on here used a foster family in France for importing a pup. Her username is Trevor. If you send her a PM she may be able to give you some info :-)

I've PM'd you the details. Per my PM they are moving to France this weekend, so you may not here from them straight away.

You have two choices either quarantine or pet passport-for the passport option you need to have your bitch stay in a country that the pet passport covers for the 6 months after the positive Rabies titre test

There are
UK ex pats & others in France who will look after your dog for 6 months while it qualifies for it's Pet Passport I know someone on here did that with their puppy

To be honest you would be better booking her into UK quarantine near where you will be in the UK so you can visit her regularly.
At least this way you will be sure of her being well looked after and be able to see her often.
If you board her in Turkey you still will have to put her through Quarantine here or else board her over 6 months in a country that is part of the Pet Passport scheme (mostly western Europe).

I found this
http://www.importingapup.info/ whilst i was looking for options about importing from europe. Might be worth contacting them to see if its a viable option for you.
Goodluck! :-D
Thankyou for all the help will be in contact to tell you how i do! thankyou!
ok i now want to start the procedures to get my Dog over to the u.k (currently in turkey) i have read through DEFRA but dont have a clue where i start?

I don't think Turkey counts for the Pet Passport scheme so your options are to Quarantine the dog for 6 months in UK and visit them, or move and kennel them to an EEC country, where it will take approximately 8 months to get it all done before they can come in.
Visit the DEFRA saite for details.
Last July we encountered a very young & beautiful dog (pup) living rough on the beach near Hania in Crete. I fed her all week. She looks like a small Weimeraner - there are a lot of Germanic type dogs in Crete due to the fact that Crete was occupied by the Germans during the 2nd World War who have subsequently settled there. On arrival home in UK and unable to get Madam out of my head I decided to move heaven and earth to bring her here. Through Greek Animal Welfare (GAW) we managed to identify the dog and the beach location. She was subsequently "rescued" by a lovely lady called Freida who runs rescue kennels and has now served about 5 months or so of her quarantine. She now has been been blood tested clear, vaccinated, microchipped with pet passport and we are just waiting for the 7 months to be up before she can be flown home. I rather assumed that after all this is completed we would be able to take our Greek dog (Hanna) wherever we wanted?? We could have brought her home to UK to do the quarantine but I figured she would do better doing it in the warmth of Crete - and it has been cheaper. Has still cost a lot and we still have to bear the cost of the special box and flight back to UK. Am expecting her back at end of March. Hope she settles with our 3 dogs ...eeekkk!
Hope you get your pooch sorted.
