My Siberian husky puppy is now 13 months old and has always had a problem with mouthing. We tried to correct this behaviour and she now greets me and my OH with a toy when we get home/up in the morning so she has something in her mouth. She does not do this with visitors though and instead grabs their wrist and holds it. She also sometimes does it to strangers who greet her when we are out. She also only seems to do it though when shes excited and she seems to get so excited she can't contain herself and won't listen to commands she knows.
hi pinkbrady i don't have any advice im sorry but i have the same problem with my 13 month old golden, she of late keeps grabbing hold of my wrist and hand, she used to do it when she was very young then stopped but the last week or so has started again! and like your girl she does it when excitedi would love too, to know why she does it ,and how to stop it i can't think of anything i did before when she stopped only maybe by command. and turning away from her:rolleyes:

Try reading the article by Dr Dunbar ;) it's excellent advice and will help you to understand how to deal with mouthing :)
Thanks Dill I will look at that article. I'm also hoping that as she gets older and hopefully calmer she will do it less as she mouths the most when shes really excited (which is a lot of the time because she loves people and attention!) I just don't want anyone whos not sure about dogs to think she's being aggressive and report her!
My GSD pup of 9 months will mouth now and again. When she wants something such as a treat she will come and get me and gently put her mouth over my hand and lead me to what she wants. She will do it when she wants to go out to the toilet as well. Also she will sometimes do it as a show of affection. She holds my hand gently in her mouth and licks my hand at the same time. But she will only do it to people that she knows and has a good bond with. For her it is a sign of affection and also her way of showing what she wants. She is very good and will let go if I tell her "enough" or "no" and because its something she has done since we had her as a young pup she knows how hard to grip. If she does grip too hard I let her know by telling her "ow" and removing my hand from her mouth and walking away. She gets the message then that she has hurt me and I wont play when this happens.
I think pink brady maybe its your huskies way of showing affection too. Maybe you could practice with her to release when you tell her enough or leave, whatever word you use and when you are out with her, when you know she is going to do it to a stranger, preempt and tell her no, so she gets the idea. I hope this helps. x
