i know the tests i need my bitch to have done, but how do i get the blood samples? would my vet happily take the samples or will i have to take my bitch to another vet willing to take the samples? how much do they charge for this and whats the best age for my bitch to be when these are taken?

Hi

I would contact your breed club as they should be able to give you the information you need. Some tests may well be done by specialists rather than your local vet but this will be determined once you have done more research :)

good luck :)

Any vet can take blood samples needed for DNA tests, and should know how to go about it. They will normally have to send them off to the relevant lab. For DNA testing age shouldn't matter either, as the DNA will of course be there from birth. :) But do check with the breed club if they have any specific requirements -they may for instance want the dog to be microchipped so it can be made sure that the right dog is presented to the vet, for any official documents to be produced giving clearance.

my vet took the blood for my lot and charged £12 but every vet will be different so check with yours.
