to stop him destroying the house buy a couple of cages and put him in one and mum next to him.always leave water with them if in there for more than a very short time.

Have you tried not spending so much time with him? Actually put him in another room away from you for awhile on occasions through the day so he's not so dependant on you and doesn't miss you so much when you're gone?

Putting him in a crate is a good idea when you are out as suggested. I think you only need one for Barney though if Mum is well behaved. Just leave her in the same room if you prefer.
Argos do a good dog gate you put across the doorway so they can't have access but they can see through which is excellent for containing dogs in a room but not excluding them altogether.
When I work nights I wouldn't be without my earplugs!!!! :)

Get a crate..they are priceless. it saves any problems, any worrys what you are coming into,
and the dog can't get a row if he or she hasn't done anything. it saves on stress..
Boy do I remember my boxer she used to take everthing off the line.. I cna remember sitting in the garden crying after she had taken my cream king size next duvet off the line and it was near distroyed. I was crying and she was licking my face.
I got a cage..
Pam :-))
If you do get a crate, make sure you introduce it slowly and make it like a great den, or you may end up with worse problems - sorry, not trying to be negative as crates can be so useful, but if you put the dog in it straight away he may get very upset :( You could maybe feed him in there, put chewy treats in there and gradually shut the door, and build up the time :) That's a bit simplistic but hopefully you get what i mean.
Agree childgates are fantastic as the dog can get used to not being with you al the time, even when in the house, you need to get hin used to being a bit separate sometimes. If he whines, totally ignore until he is quiet, then allow him in with you :) When you separate him, give him chewy stuff, toys or treats so he doesn't mind too much and may even start to enjoy time on his own.
Whilst my girl was a youngser, she only had the run of the hall and living room, we blocked of kitchen and staris with gates.
WE also stuffed Kongs for her...but she was very sweet and just sat on the sofa looking out for us.....and tried to give us the Kong (still stuffed) as a pressie when we got back. Aw, don't you just love 'em.....

A rubber toy that can be stuffed with yummy goodies.
Have a look at
The Kong Company they've got loads of info and some great recipes on there.
I use a medium one for my 7mth old Cocker and she loves it. You can get them from most pet shops.

Hi you could also try a buster cube if you are going for the safety gate option rather than a crate. Fill it with small biscuit instead of giving him breakfast if you have to go out in the moring and he will spend his time rolling it around the floor to get the treats out. He's just doing it because he is bored.
