My mum is training to be a dog groomer (ooo free grooming yayy!! lol)

next weekend she has a "open day" where they take there own pups/dogs and groom them for an exam.

She cant take her own dog because Taz is VERY anxious and panics in new surroundings.  But shes asked to take Leo.

Part of me is VERY up for it, he will be 14 weeks by then, and is very sociable and i know he desperately needs to be socialised young (because he hadn't had any jabs when we got him he still hasn't had his second lot, they will be done on the friday) the open day is sunday.

So there is a possibility he will be mixed with dogs that haven't had there jabs, only 3 days after having his second lot.

The grooming college says this will be fine, and that 99% (if not all) of the dogs will have had there jabs, and mum agrees with them, but the vet said that we have to wait 5 days untill socialising him around other unvacc dogs........

Its a bit yeah but no, because one side of me wont take any risks at all (hes had the kennel cough one last week so hes fine for that) but another side of me thinks im passing on a fantastic opportunity for him to mix and play with other dogs and get the socialision he desperately needs!!

Also anyone know a way of preventing car sickness?? we just got back from the shops with Leo and i have just spent an hour scrubbing my poor car which was full of vomit *bleuch!*

fanks!!

My OH isn't a vet, but he works for the trade association representing the animal medicine manufacturers, so he knows a fair bit about the effects of medicines and vaccines etc. He says the first shot protects them just fine, and the 2nd shot is mainly to make sure the system is boosted for the year until they get the next booster next year. So your puppy should be ok. It might be a little bit much for his first ever trip into the outside world though, I trained at a grooming college, and it was very noisy with all the cockers and Westies yapping away! If they are running it properly he shouldn't really be mixing or playing with the other dogs to be honest, we were always careful that they didn't do more than sniff briefly and then were led away again. :-)

I dont know if I would risk it.  Do you know of any puppy socialization classes in your area that you could sign up for instead?
I would just be worried about the unvaccinated dogs, and as well as the manners of the other dogs as well.  A lot of people say their dogs are fine, and take them to outtings, but I have seen many a dog get attacked by so called "friendly and well behaved dogs".

thanks :)

He has already been booked in for puppy classes, but not untill hes had his last jabs, so he starts in 2 weeks :)

Quite excited actually, they do the KC good citizen awards and also go onto agility so it looks like fun :D
