Our 4 1/2 month old Cavalier King Charles spaniel black and tan (Benji) is gutsing down his food. Although not being sick afterwards he will not crunch any dog biscuits, but swallows them completely whole. He has 2 meals a day but literally downs hi dish of food in 30 seconds. We also have a CKC tri who is just one year old and he takes his time. Being a new owner can anbody please advise on how to help with this problem?
Thanks you for your help.

You could try putting a tennis ball or similar in with his dinner so that he has to work around that rather than just hoovering. The other thing that we do with a gredy pup is to add some hot water (not boiling) so that he has to take his time to get through the food. Obviously I wouldn't do this often and a couple of times seems to do the trick.

Either try to make the meals into 3 a day or as jayneA says similar is a brick in the bottom of the bowl works a trick as they have to work around it.

I'm not sure it is a problem? Mine all wolf their food down in record time, if they don't I know they're not well :)

Well he should still be on three meals as he isn't 6 months yet. If only my Cavaliers had eaten like this as puppies, they do now & still have two meals a day like all my dogs have done. If it doesn't disappear PDQ I get worried

Wolfing down food is not a problem, so don't worry about it.
Agree with the other poster - you pup should be on 3 meals a day, not two.

my 11 month pup wolfs down her food so did one of my other bitches as a pup i know its not nice but i think its normal too. im getting a new pup on saturday so will see what this ones eating habits are like
Sorry I made a mistake and got badly told off by my wife, Benji IS ON 3 MEALS A DAY NOT 2, my apologies, but lots of good answers and now I am not as worried since I have read all of your replies. Thank You
the ball in the bowl does work as this is what i have to do with my wsd. Mine wolfs it down to the point that he cant swallow any more and practically makes himself sick, the ball in the bowl has stopped this or you can try a tupperware bowl turned upside down in his bowl.
