Hi Lucy. I filled in a form which came through the post asking if we would like to conserve energy. We were then contacted by a cavity wall insulation company who sent out a surveyor and we were told that we could have cavity wall insulation for £150 and the council would pay the rest. If we had been on benefits, we would have had it for free. We could have had new loft insulation too but we didn't fancy clearing out the loft for the workmen :) so we have decided to get it done later. We have some insulation there but it is lower than the recommended thickness.
Did they hassle you as alot of the websites I have gone on seem to be all connected with one company per site rather than a selection ? Also we would be looking at wool insulation so I wonder if you can choose what type you have ?
i have had no hassle as i went with this company "Warmfront" they have been brill and i get it all free! which will be good next christmas as this year the house is so cold even the dogs are sleeping underquilts!i spend 35 pound a week on electric heating (we have a key meter) and 40 pounds every 2 weeks on coal for the one fire we have!! roll on the summer.........
Lucy i have applied for this grant and have to wait upto 6 months for the central heating and in the mean time they are lagging my loft and hot water tank and also doing something to walls and windows! i just phoned a number i saw in the paper
How did you get all that? Sounds like something I need to look into, my house is too cold, and the £10 a week I pay for gas (key meter) isn't enough to heat it as much as I (or Remy :p) would like.
Plus I suspect the boiler's going to die sometime over the next year, it ain't happy!
