- By MW184 [gb] Date 17.12.07 19:34 UTC
Hi

How long ideally would a 13 month old dog be able to go through the night without needing a toilet visit?

thanks for your help

all are different, but mine managed about 7 hours as a rule....but even as adults occsionally need a night time wee.

We go to bed at about 11pm and get up at 7 or 7.30, so certainly about 8 hours.

thanks a lot.  I usually go to bed at 1030 and get up at 0700 so I shall try staying up a bit longer and see how we go.

this is a cross breed - spaniel cross.  I did the 1100 visit ouside - took him a few minutes to realise what I wanted - but then that led to an accident free night so pretty good going.

thanks

the puppy i got gos to bed at 10.30 to 7 am no accident she 5 months old.

it all depends on the breed and the sex of the dog too, girls train easyer than dogs.my spainsh were a lot later in training than the flatcoats

I agree that it depends on the breed. My boy was clean almost straight away, but the bitches  My 3 year old took almost a year before she was completely clean (both day and night :( ) Her daughter was clean at 5 months. But then I was up more often through the night and let her out when I got up so she was used to waiting ;)

Our lab can go 8/9 hrs not that i've ever left her that long but she will wait on in there if its raining, in the end we have to thro her out into the garden, awful arn't we !

My Shar Pei will go out for a wee at around 9pm - he then goes to bed and gets up around 7am - never ever asked to go out in the night.  I have trained him well!

Our Bernese can go about 2 days  , not because we want her to but because she wouldnt pee in a strange place when we were on holiday- she must have a 4 gallon bladder !

LOL @ Dakkobear...my delilah is reluctant to wee at my mums when we stay there, and once went 18 hours despite being taken out 12 times!

My one Lab moose like to wee whenever she can but Dudley the other Lab will build the wee up until she is bursting !

Once she finally does one we are there for a few minutes whilst she empties out

Over night they can last for about 10 hours :)
