My husband is currently driving me insane....He has developed some kind of pet allergy. We have had a border collie for about 5 yrs now which he is fine with however due to a change of job he is residing with his parents during the week and they have a golden retriever puppy (currently 8mths old) The problem seems to have arisen since the puppy came on the scene. He has been to his Dr who just fobbed him off saying he has developed Asmtha. He has a puffer however he is still constantly wheezing which not only keeps him up during the night but me also. He has taken allergy tablets but they do not seem to be doing much good. He cannot get an appt with the good Dr until next year - anyone got any ideas or old remedies we can try ???

What allergy tablets has he tried? I would suggest Piriton as one to try. However if the puffer isn't controlling the asthma I would suggest he insists that he gets to see the doctor again before Xmas.
I think there is a product called Petal cleanse which can be rubbed on the dog to cut down the allergic problems. Never used it myself but if you search this board I am sure I have seen posts mentioning it before.

If he is that wheezy his asthma is not being effectively treated......is there an asthma nurse at your surgery? He really shouldnt be wheezing on proper treatment and I would NOT advise waiting until the new year. I am a physiotherapist specialising in breathing and cardiac disorders and used to run an asthma clinic, so i am fairly experienced with this. He needs to go back to the surgery and insist on some spirometry (breathing tests),or a peak flow test. If the doctor cannot do this, ask him to refer your husband to an asthma nurse somewhere else. You could also see if NHS direct can advise you what to do if your gp is not treating your husband properly. Asthma can be serious, and can kill if not well controlled, so its important not to put off getting it seen to.

Thank you for your post - My husband has a peak flow meter which he has taken measurements from over a period of a month, he is regularly blowing about 400/450 - I tried it and I can get to 550 (my husband is fit and healthy - age 29) I have shown him the posts and I think when he saw it in type, he got a little bit scared and has assured me that tomorrow he will contact the Doctors surgery annd get an appt before Christmas. He got a fright yesterday as he went out into the cold air in the morning and had a major coughing fit which left him wheezing like you would with whooping cough ! I only know that as I had it when I was younger.

It maybe the puppy fur as i was allergic to our new puppy. It changes courseness later in life i think it maybe 1yr old if i remember correctly. I was on an inhaler and took anti allergy tabs. He may find it goes once the fur changes. Bizaare i know.
i agree he shouldnt be wheezing if asthma is controlled sounds like he needs a steroid puffer which is used twice a day with the ventolin one for relief in between. he may also not be inhaling correctly and may need a thing called a spacer which makes it much easier. i would def see the doctor/asthma nurse asap

I think he may be best seeing a specialist and don't let the GP fob him off either!
