I work on my feet all day now i'm presuming i'm predominantly right footed and must tend to lean most of my weight on that foot (i'm not fat by the way :D ) but i've had a niggly pain in my foot/ankle all day got home took my boots off and wow its swollen quite a lot... and its throbbing like mad...

I have to wear their footwear so changing boots isnt an option, what can i do :( :( i'm so not looking forward to bedtime if its still throbbing by then..

oh dear, that sounds painful :(  You'd be best to have it checked by your doctor but in the meantime, taken some painkillers (preferably ones with ibuprofen in if you can get them) and elevate your foot.  When you go to bed, pile a couple of pillows up under it to keep it raised while you're sleeping.

Hope it gets better soon, especially as you need to be on your feet all day.

I lean on my feet a lot, putting more weight on one than the other since I have a bad left knee, and am used to hopping on one leg, while being supported by crutches.

I usually put a tensor on, and then put my foot up higher than my heart (apparently it takes the swelling out from what I am told, but on me it usually only elivates some pain, and takes swelling down a bit)

Then once I can stand to put any pressure on my foot at all, I get in a hot shower.  Blood flow, makes things heal faster, so the heat makes the blood flow stronger.  By shower, sorry I mean bath.

Then after I put the ice pack on it.

Usually, the pain is from a pressure on a nerve or something, when it is dealing with constantly being on your feet all the time.  You know when you get the pain in the middle of your shins, kinda the same concept.  The bone isnt broken (usually) but your muscles are saying "Gimme a break"

I find, when I am off crutches, to to do "Heal Ups"  where you stand on your toes (well unless you are a ballet dancer, the balls of your feet) and hold for 10 seconds.  Put your foot back down.  It helps loosen and stretch the muscles and tendons in your foot.

Hope that helps!!!!

Don't forget to report it at work too. Any repetative strain is seen as an industrial injury and that's because it is. They should really send the staff around the place and on different jobs so it doesn't happen.

strangely enough i developed exactly the same symptoms this week, and so did 2 other people i know!!! I have slapped on a tubigrip after treating it with ice, and have been taking ibuprofen as an anti inflammatory.  PS its not neceassarily repetitive strain injury( I am a physiotherapist) as all 3 of us have not been doing anything that could have aggravated it. You might want to check if your boots are actually properly fitted though.
