I used to get lots of telephone sales calls but I was given a number which I phoned and they completely stopped after a month or so. They have now started again which is a nuisance but I can't remember who I telephoned to stop this. I was just wondering if anyone on here knows. I would be very grateful for your help.

I think the 'telephone preference service' only applies to uk firms and as so many call centres are now abroad...
Chris

a lot of the operators can't pronounce my surname and they inevitably ask for Mr... or Mrs... I just say no-one of that name lives here:eek:
OH starts a discussion with them on the lines of...did I ask you to phone me... which costs them but gives them no chance to sell whatever.

We use the telephone preference service and the only calls it hasn't stopped are the ones from our bank (to try to get us to take out a loan - what for? I ask ) and OHs credit card (he doesn't use it enough LOL ) - everything else has stopped - Yay!

Hi

I used that link and registered my number it said it was already registered. Confused as I am still getting annoying calls.  Wish you could do the same to stop sales men coming to the door. I get so annoyed when they are trying to sell me double glazing when it is very obvious i already have it lol

I don't know, but I'm currently getting obscene calls from someone who knows us   .......we've obviously upset them  or they think it funny
So far, I've blocked reverse charge calls, as we were getting these at 2 a.m etc and have the "choose to refuse" option where, once they have phoned, you can block the number, unfortunately, once the free month is up I have to pay to keep the numbers blocked :( and may just end up changing my tel No. ..........can't be bothered to go through the rigmarole of traces on the line etc.

ask them to hold on a minute put the phone on the side and walk off they soon get the message as they are paying for the call LOL

Another one that works is  say ' trace this call operator' you soon get dial tone!!!

also a whistle works well !

I used to work in the telephone exchange they used to keep people talking trace the call and prosecute eg:I had to go to court for a bomb threat in fords Factory .

Thanks everyone. The point about it only being UK based firms that are blocked is probably right as it was an american woman that phoned twice this week to say that I'd won a competion. I just put the phone down.
