Hi , i have a little cav and she is nearly a year old. She had her first season in august at the mother in laws, she was having a holiday with the kids(was very bloody and swollen) but she is now having another season,she is cleaning herself more this time and not leaving such a mess but is still swollen.I thought she came in to season as she went away on her hols as i was once told that if you move a bitch that had not had a season she would come in if you move her.(by a welfare group)but what i don't understand is why she has come in again,is there a problem with her bits that i need checking out or was her first one a false one (it seemed very normal,bloody and swollen for a good while not slight or anything, if anything she was worse than my big dog)Is it maybe a thyroid problem? I am slightly concerned  as she is a tad tiny compared to other cavs i see . Does anyone know what it could be ? thanks

A bitch will come into season when her hormones dictate - it's got nothing to do with whether or not she's moved. I wonder where they got that idea from, or whether you misunderstood? It seems rather soon for her to come into season again, but that could be her particular cycle. I'd have her checked by the vet just to make sure nothing's wrong.

It was a breed wefare group (not cavs though)that told me that, i was rehoming a six month old and they advised her to be spayed before she came to me as she would come in season as soon as she moved as i had a boy dog in the house and they also said it would not affect her being spayed before her first season .(i beg to differ now having had her for 4 and a half years and having bitches after her)So it would be best to get her to the vets then? I thought maybe it could be a split season but will get her checked out anyway .

some bitches do come in season when you move them some adult bitches that weve bought in have done so

I don't think that forces' personnel, who move frequently and often have entire bitches, have noticed this! ;)

We are forces and my bitch has never come in when we have moved, unless it happens to be the time for her coming in of course!

I was forces too, but my bitch was spayed so did not notice ,but the other bitch i have  was regular and moves did not affect her.Maybe the welfare group were just spinning me a yarn as she was spayed at six months and they had to justify it somehow.Back to my little cav , i have been trying to research a little but not sure what it may be called ,is it split seasons or is it a false season i shoud research?

I used to do voluntary work to rehome greyhounds that had finished their so called "working career"!! It is quite well known that when greyhounds are moved about they do unexpectedly come into season. this is why alot of greyhound trainers administer the hormone drug on a regular basis to stop a bitch ever coming into season whilst it is still good to race! Very sad but it happens all the time. Some of the dogs that used to come to us were in such a state both physically and mentally that there was not alot that we could do to help them

No idea about the moving and coming into season, but if she was in in August and it's now December, that's 4 months which isn't unheard of. My own Cav girl's mother apparently came in every 4 months (I'm so glad my girl's a 7 monther!). It can mean trouble getting them in whelp if you were thinking of breeding, but if not it'll just mean a bit of a pain if she comes in every 4 months. Hopefully as she matures she will clean more effectively or just be less messy, my girl's always been pretty clean. You can buy hygiene pants for when she's in the lounge to save the sofas, obviously not to be worn all the time though. :-)

Most of my girls have had their first seasons at 4 to 5 month intervals and then by the time they were two to three they were their usual 6 to 7 months.  I have never had problems getting them in whelp but none were mated until their seasons were already 6 - 7 months intervals.

GSD's often come into season at 4 months intervals and this does not seem to affect fertility.

According to various sources I have read less than four month intervals may mean lack of ovulation.
